Ie Experiments

1. The document discusses designing an inductor with specifications of 1mH inductance and a 0.4A current carrying capacity. It calculates the number of turns needed as 26 based on the core dimensions and material properties. 2. It also discusses designing a 24/12V 1A transformer. It calculates the primary area as 1.15 sq cm based on the voltage, current and efficiency specifications. It then calculates the number of primary turns as 42 based on the area, voltage and industry standard turns per volt per square cm.

1. INDUCTOR DESIGN Aim: To design an Inductor for 1mH with a current carrying capacity of 0.4 A.

L = N2A0r/l ; N - no of turns A - Average area of the core = l x b 0 = 4 x 10 -7 r = 1 Available bobbin 2 x 1.7cm2 N = = 21.6

Space factor 10 - 20% No of turns = 26 Std Current density of copper = 3A / Sq mm For 3A, 1 Sq mm So for 0.4 A , 1/3x0.4 sq mm = 0.133Sq mm S W G from the table = 27

2. TRANSFORMER DESIGN Aim: To design a 24/12V, 1A transformer EMF induced in transformer winding, E = 4.44fN = 4.44fBAN Transformer rating in Volt ampere EI = 4.44fBANI But Flux = MMF/Reluctance = NI/S EI = 4.44f(BA)2S f = 50Hz, Area = V2 = 12V I2 = 1A Primary VA = V2I2/ = 12/0.9 = 13.33 Area = x 1.15sq.cm = 4.2 0 = 4 x 10-7 r = 3000 for CRGO (Cold Rolled Grain Oriented) x 1.15 sq.cm

Area = Length *breadth (based on the area, select the bobbin) Choose Length and Breadth. Standard spec for Number of turns = = 6 turns /V/sq. inch 15 turns /V/sq.cm

Number of turns /Volt = (15/area) turns/ V = 15/4.2 = 3.5 turns/ V Number of turns for 12V = 3.5 x 12 = 42

For winding copper wire is used. Current density for copper is 3A/Sq.mm For 1A area is = 1/3 sq.mm Specification of wire is in SWG. Choose the wire according to the area. Number of turns for Primary : V2I2 = V1I1 Area of the conductor = (15 turns /Volt) x 24 Choose the wire according to the area.
