Reykjavik University is organized into two prominent academic domains, the School of Social Sciences and the School of Technology, encompassing seven departments. These departments offer education at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, emphasizing collaboration with the business community, promoting innovation, and conducting research recognized internationally.
In addition to degree programs, Reykjavik University offers a one-year preparatory programme designed to provide individuals with a solid academic foundation. The Open University of RU further expands continuous learning opportunities by offering a variety of flexible courses tailored to working professionals aiming to advance their education and careers.

Department of Sports Science
The department offers programs in sports science at the BSc and MSc levels. The undergraduate programme prepares students for a variety of careers related to sports and public health. The master's program is divided into three programmes, providing students with teaching qualifications or significant specialization in training science or management within the industry.
Department of Law
Since its establishment, the Department of Law at RU has been progressive in its teaching, curriculum development, and research. While the law itself does not change rapidly, society and our environment do, and the faculty closely monitors these developments. Students and faculty engage with classic legal challenges, such as liability, international law, and criminal law, while also exploring emerging topics like intellectual property law, technology law, artificial intelligence, and space law.
Department of Business & Economics
At RU's Department of Business & Economics, students develop their entrepreneurial skills while gaining a solid academic foundation. The programmes focus on business administration and economics and are designed in collaboration with the business community. The curriculum emphasizes an international perspective, supported by a diverse group of adjunct lecturers who are active in Icelandic and international companies or universities.
The department also offers an international Executive MBA program, from which a large number of leaders have graduated. These alumni have made significant contributions across all sectors of Icelandic business and on the international stage. Other master’s programs provide specialized skills for the job market and can be completed in just 14 months instead of the usual two years.
Department of Psychology
Teaching at the Department of Psychology at RU emphasizes scientific methodology, international research, robust field training, and connections with the business community.
Psychology is a broad field encompassing the study of human behaviour and thought. Students in the department have significant opportunities to explore the areas of psychology that interest them most. A wide range of career opportunities awaits graduates as psychological knowledge is increasingly applied in industries such as software development and design, to name a few.

Studies at RU's Department of Applied Engineering provide a strong academic foundation combined with specialized and practical expertise. Students are encouraged to apply initiative and independent work methods in real-world projects. The teaching methods in the department are continuously evolving, and the curriculum adapts to meet the changing needs of the industry.
Department of Computer Science
The Computer Science Department prepares students for advanced studies and/or careers by providing a strong academic foundation and practical knowledge of the latest technologies and methods. Upon graduation, students enter the workforce equipped to solve the challenges we face today and those we will encounter in the future.
Diploma and BSc programs in computer science are offered at RU and in Akureyri in collaboration with the University of Akureyri. The department also partners with corresponding departments in Italy and Sweden, offering students the opportunity to graduate with a double degree in their master's studies.
Department of Engineering
The Department of Engineering emphasises providing students with a practical education that benefits them immediately after graduation and throughout their careers. This involves offering a strong academic foundation in mathematics and sciences, building upon it with the ability to apply engineering methodologies to a wide range of projects.
Students can choose from a variety of programs and pathways, allowing them to develop a unique specialization. The focus is on equipping students to analyse complex problems, adapt to new technologies, and propose innovative solutions.
