Megan Thee Stallion No Longer Performing at 2023 Global Citizen Festival

Megan Thee Stallion has dropped out of the lineup for Global Citizen Festival, the music event scheduled to return to Central Park’s Great Lawn in New York on Sept. 23. In a statement to Rolling Stone, Global Citizen said: “Due to unforeseen scheduling conflict, Megan Thee Stallion will no longer be available to perform at the 2023 Global Citizen Festival.”
The festival quietly revealed the change in the lineup on Sunday, Sept. 10, while replying to a fan on Twitter, who wondered why the rapper’s photo had been used in their promotional coverage despite not being directly mentioned in the article they published that listed the performance roster.
Four days before confirming Megan Thee Stallion would no longer be performing, Global Citizen announced a new addition to the lineup of scheduled performers: BTS member Jung Kook. He joined the roster as a co-headliner alongside Anitta, Ms. Lauryn Hill, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. The live music event will also feature performances from Conan Gray, Stray Kids, DJ D-Nice, and Sofia Carson.
Tickets for the event are free, so any fans who were only attending to see Megan Thee Stallion aren’t at any financial loss, at least. Those who still plan to attend can support this year’s Global Citizen goal of helping drive action to end extreme poverty. Global Citizen focuses its efforts on eliminating poverty in the Global South, along with gender inequities around the globe.
On the back of the release of “Bongos,” her second collaboration with Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion will be taking the stage at Prudential Center in New Jersey later tonight for her debut main-stage performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
