Development Bank of Kazakhstan JSC (DBK), a subsidiary organization of "Baiterek" Holding, took part in the XXI meeting of the Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Interbank Consortium (SCO IBC), held in Beijing under the chairmanship of China Development Bank (CDB). On behalf of DBK, the Head of the Bank Marat Yelibayev and his deputy Botagoz Abisheva took part in the meeting.
The meeting was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the SCO IBC. The participants summarized the results of the year and noted the importance of the association as a platform promoting the strengthening of economic ties based on the principles of the «Shanghai spirit» and financial stability in the region.
"Within the framework of the SCO Interbank Consortium we count on the progressive development of investment cooperation between our countries, launch and implementation of mutually beneficial projects in such priority areas as transportation, trade, energy, high technology and industry. We are confident that deepening partnership in these areas will give an additional impetus to economic growth and sustainable development of the entire SCO region," said Marat Yelibayev, Chairman of the DBK Board.
Following the results of the meeting, a Joint Statement of member banks for the 20th anniversary of the association was signed, a new member was agreed upon, and the Head of Eldik Bank OJSC of the Kyrgyz Republic, U.M. Nogaev, was elected Chairman of the SCO IBC Council for 2025-2026.
Marat Yelibayev also held a number of bilateral meetings within the framework of the session. With Habib Bank Limited (Pakistan) sides discussed joint initiatives in the field of sustainable development, including food security, green finance and agriculture. With the management of China Development Bank, the parties reviewed in detail the current interaction on co-financing of infrastructure and manufacturing projects in US dollars and yuan. A meeting was also held with the management of the India Infrastructure Finance Company on potential cooperation.
The participation of DBK in the SCO IBC has become an important stage in building up economic and financial ties with the countries of the region. This direction organically fits into the preparations for the Second "Central Asia-China" Summit to be held in June 2025 in Astana. The upcoming summit is expected to become a key event in the regional agenda, strengthening strategic partnership in the areas of investment, infrastructure and sustainable development. The DBK's activities within the SCO framework are further developed on other platforms of regional interaction, including the "Central Asia-China" Summit format.
