A woman who lied during her initial interview with Homicide Unit detectives following a double murder case last October is out today on
$10,000 bond after her arrest Thursday for false reporting.
Maria Doris Urbina-Escalante, 25, was charged after it was discovered she was awake and outside when the fatal shooting of Franklin
Bautista-Ayala and Luis Gonzalez-Barajas began outside her home on Vultee Boulevard. Urbina-Escalante recanted her original statement that she was asleep when the gunfire took place last October 11th, and admitted to witnessing her boyfriend, Jose Cerros-Lopez, 41, fire upon the victims after a brief argument.
Bautista-Ayala, 29, and Gonzalez-Barajas, 37, died at the scene.
Both pistols Cerros-Lopez used in the shooting were recovered outside.
Warrants were issued charging Cerros-Lopez with two counts of criminal homicide last year. Anyone knowing his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
