2024 state election results

In state elections in September, the rise of the far-right Alternative for Germany was on display. In the key Brandenburg state, Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats narrowly held off AfD. But the party made gains elsewhere, scoring a stunning win in the election in the eastern German state of Thuringia on Sept. 1.
