Use case examples

Real-time data processing
Apache Kafka is the go-to service for applications that need to process high volumes of data quickly. Our service helps you to easily make the most of Apache Kafka for live data input and analytics.

Large-scale message processing
Compared to other messaging systems, Apache Kafka’s architecture offers a largely optimised throughput, scalability and fault tolerance. Our managed solution is ideal for processing all your data streams.

Cloud-native event integration
In a decentralised architecture, Apache Kafka serves as an intermediary that connects different microservices. This solution gives you the option to create an event-driven architecture, which means your microservices get triggered by events in real time.

Your questions answered
What is Apache Kafka?
Apache Kafka is a distributed, scalable and open-source platform. It is used to create data processing pipelines, and streaming and real-time data applications. Its system is well-known for making it easy to handle large databases in real time. It is compatible with a wide range of programming languages (frameworks) - such as Python, Query, PHP, Java, and Ruby.
How does Apache Kafka work?
The incoming data that passes through this system is arranged into ‘topics’, which can be structured according to the type of collected data they contain. Apache Kafka’s clustered architecture is orchestrated by a timestamp that sorts this data and replicates it before distributing it.
The sources publishing data in these topics are called ‘producers’ or ‘publishers’. Those who read this data are ‘consumers’ or ‘subscribers’. They can both access the platform’s Java library: Kafka Stream.
This way, it uses queues to manage the data streams between these sources without overloading them. This solution is capable of distributing information between different systems (such as servers, data storage spaces, and relational databases, etc.). Large volumes of data generated by big data, machine learning, etc., can be processed through this centralised management.
Why use Apache Kafka?
This solution is ideal for applications that require fast live-data analysis. Its role as an intermediary in centralised message processing also allows for better management of your information.
What is OVHcloud Managed Kafka?
OVHcloud Managed Kafka is a managed Apache Kafka service. It is one of the managed services available on our Public Cloud. Its purpose is to save you time, since we take care of your database’s management and administration.
What is the difference between 1-AZ and 3-AZ regions?
Discover deployment resilience in our dedicated guide.
1-AZ regions use a single availability zone with one or more datacentres. While they offer protection against server and driver failures, they can be vulnerable to datacentre failures, which in turn can cause access issues.
In comparison, 3-AZ regions provide true fault isolation with 3 independent availability zones, each with isolated power, cooling, and network. This architecture means that services remain available even in the event of an entire zone failure.
Get peace of mind with 99.99% SLAs.
Can I migrate my 1-AZ workloads to a 3-AZ?
Yes! It is certainly possible to migrate from a 1-AZ region to a 3-AZ region.
You can connect 1-AZ regions to 3-AZ regions via private connectivity to optimise the complexity and cost of your infrastructure deployments.
