NYPA Ranked as Top Utility Among Best Midsize Employers
State Public Utility Marks Fifth Year in National Rankings
WHITE PLAINS—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) has been named by Forbes Magazine as a Best Midsize American Employer. NYPA earned a high ranking as the 30th best place to work out of 498 companies and was ranked first within the utilities industry.
“NYPA draws its strength from the diversity of our state and has been successful in cultivating a workplace filled with passionate, dedicated and forward-thinking individuals who continue to innovate the energy industry through thoughtful and unique solutions,” said NYPA President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll. “Working alongside such inspired colleagues is an award in itself, and this distinction reflects NYPA’s reputation as an industry leader endeavoring to provide our state with comprehensive clean energy solutions.”
“I want to thank our employees for their feedback that contributed to our ranking as a Best Employer,” said Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Karina Saslow. “I’m honored they feel NYPA is a place where they can have a meaningful career with opportunities for growth and to contribute to our mission and vision. We remain dedicated to maintaining a culture where everyone is empowered to do their best and feel they belong.”
To create its 10th anniversary list, Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to survey more than 217,000 employees working at companies within the U.S. that employ more than 1,000 people. The Best Midsized employers list ranks companies with 1,000 to 5,000 employees in their U.S. operations.
The list was compiled using feedback from employees, friends and family, and celebrates the top companies in the U.S. that create great places for employees to work. Anonymous respondents were surveyed on a range of criteria including salary, work environment, training programs and opportunities to advance.
NYPA, with its central offices in White Plains in the Mid-Hudson region, employs more than 2,500 people in New York State and operates major hydropower projects in Western and Northern New York. NYPA’s workforce includes individuals with a diverse range of skills, including electricians; linepersons; mechanics; security professionals; engineers; project managers; renewables development specialists; policy experts; environmental scientists; data analysts; cyber security experts; cloud engineers; community relations professionals, communications and environmental justice specialists; financial analysts; energy traders; strategic buyers and asset managers; key account managers, and many others.
