Congenital syphilis is on the rise in the U.S. and New Jersey. Congenital syphilis occurs when syphilis is passed from a mother to the fetus during pregnancy. It can cause severe, life-threatening health problems in newborns.
N.J.S.A. 26:4-48.2 (the EPT statute), authorizes a health care professional to give patients diagnosed with an STD medication or prescriptions to give to their sex partners without conducting a medical evaluation of the patient’s sex partners. Please see the provider EOT FAQ sheet for more information about providing EPT in New Jersey.
The following informational materials are provided for printing and distribution to patients when providing EPT. Hard copies can be requested by calling the STD Program main line at 609-826-4869
