H5N1 vaccines have been previously licensed, and millions are in the national stockpile. The National Academy of Sciences announced that Eric Skaar, PhD, MPH, director of the Vanderbilt Institute for Infection, Immunology and Inflammation (VI4) will receive the 2025 NAS Award in Molecular Biology for “pioneering work at the intersection of nutrition and infectious diseases." 🦠 Skaar and team focus on the battle between bacterial pathogens and the vertebrates they infect for nutrient metals like iron and zinc.
