About us
The Career Center, within the Division of Student Affairs, is the centralized career center for UMBC, serving nearly 14,000 undergraduate and graduate students. In partnership with our strong network of employers, alumni, staff and faculty, we aim to empower all students and graduates to create their own success stories. Our team of talented and dedicated professionals work with students at every academic level, from first-year freshmen to graduate students. Our services include career advising and counseling, networking events, on-campus and virtual recruiting, career and professional skills education, and applied learning opportunities (internships, co-ops, and research). We serve UMBC alumni as they grow in their careers or transition to new ones. Alumni are also important partners in hiring UMBC talent and giving back through career advice and mentoring. The UMBC Career Center creates partnerships with local and national employers and offers a wide variety of services designed to facilitate access to UMBC’s top-quality students and graduates. We strive to build connections across all our partners. This page serves as a public space to share UMBC and Career Center updates and celebrate our students, alumni, campus community and employers recruiting UMBC talent. Meet Samuel Barnett ’25, Biochemistry major at UMBC. Sam is headed to a Ph.D. program in cellular and molecular biology at the University of Pennsylvania this fall—thanks to the research experiences he seized during his undergraduate journey. After getting his start at Howard Community College, Samuel dove into hands-on research through UMBC’s BUILD a BRIDGE to STEM (BBS) Internship, a program that immersed him in biological research and provided critical mentorship, autonomy, and a sense of belonging. Meet Chhaya Kulkarni, Ph.D. ’25, in Information Sciences, who has just completed her Ph.D. journey at UMBC! Inspired by her mom’s passion for higher education and guided by her cousin’s experience, Chhaya arrived at UMBC in 2019 and has thrived in research and academic life. In the fall, she’ll join Towson University as an assistant professor in Computer and Information Sciences, continuing her groundbreaking research in Earth observation science and data analysis.
