A study done by the Microsoft AI red team to probe the safety and security of more than 100 generative AI systems has revealed that generative AI systems amplify both existing and new security risks, and that keeping AI systems secure will rely on humans implementing a continuous process to adapt to the rapidly evolving risk landscape. The whitepaper shared by the Microsoft AI red team presents case studies from their operations that highlight how the team tackled a wide assortment of scenarios, including security, responsible AI, dangerous capabilities (such as a model’s ability to generate hazardous content), and psychosocial harms. The study has enabled the team to recognize a variety of potential cyberthreats and adapt quickly when confronting new ones. Read more about the key takeaways from the whitepaper on this blog by AI Safety Researcher Blake Bullwinkel and Data Cowboy, AI Red Team Ram Shankar Siva Kumar: https://msft.it/6042U6fLA Red teaming is the first step in identifying potential harms and is followed by important initiatives at Microsoft to measure, manage, and govern AI risk. The AI red team was formed in 2018 to address the growing landscape of AI safety and security risks. CVP of AI Safety and Security at Microsoft Yonatan Zunger joined the Microsoft Threat Intelligence podcast last year to discuss the different approaches and tools Microsoft utilizes to assess AI systems for vulnerabilities and help secure them: https://msft.it/6045Wk08d

As the European Union's AI Act approaches its February 2025 implementation, Microsoft is focused on ensuring full compliance while helping customers continuing to innovate with AI. We’ve developed a comprehensive approach to integrating risk management across the AI lifecycle—fulfilling key obligations for high-risk systems and general-purpose models, including transparency and documentation requirements. With compliance phased and over 60 secondary regulations to define its scope, the Act extends globally to companies engaging with the EU market. Through our Microsoft Trust Center, we’ll continue to share tools and resources, such as Microsoft Purview Compliance Manager and Azure AI Content Safety, and refine our practices as the regulatory landscape evolves. Read more about how we’re preparing for this AI Act and what it means for responsible AI: https://msft.it/6044U626E #AIGovernance #ResponsibleAI #Microsoft #TechRegulation
