Last week, New York Governor Kathy Hochul unveiled the NY Emerging Technology Advisory Board’s first report on leveraging AI’s big moment for the New York economy. New York State first announced an Emerging Technology Advisory Board at McKinsey’s Future of New York Summit this year -- an independent group of industry leaders, led by Arvind Krishna, CEO of IBM and Dr. Tarika Barrett, Ph.D., CEO of Girls Who Code, dedicated to transforming New York into a hub for growth and innovation. We are incredibly proud to have supported Girls Who Code and IBM in their effort to produce the NY’s Emerging Technology Advisory Board’s first report, which shares recommendations focused on three key ambitions to make NY a leading place for innovation: ➡️ Enable all New York businesses to responsibly deploy AI at scale ➡️ Democratize AI through literacy initiatives for New Yorkers ➡️ Ensure every worker thrives in the new AI landscape Dive into ETAB’s latest report here: https://bit.ly/406aZxm #futureofnewyork #NYETAB #AI

Many government agencies have started investing in transformations made possible by generative AI, but the technology’s rapid evolution adds unpredictability. In this article, we discuss three important questions that public sector organizations may need to consider before choosing areas for investment: ✅ How can government agencies address the potential risks of gen AI? ✅ How can public sector entities begin to transform their own service delivery? ✅ Should governments develop national gen AI foundation models (core models on which gen AI applications are built)? Let’s talk about productivity. We all know how important it is to be productive in our day-to-day lives (especially this time of year!), and we’re constantly being asked to do MORE. The US government is no different. Recent McKinsey & Company research estimates that the US government could save roughly $750 billion annually— or more than $2,000 per resident— by making their day-to-day operations more efficient. Actually realizing it, though, will take deliberate effort. My McKinsey colleagues and I recently identified seven key levers government organizations can consider employing to improve productivity throughout their operations. We then took it a step further and shared several real-world examples of how government organizations are already applying these levers to help improve government productivity in places like Singapore and India. Our key takeaway? Measuring and improving productivity in government is possible, and government leaders who identify and employ key productivity levers can capture valuable productivity gains that result in not only cost savings but also more satisfied citizens.
