Are you a journalist or investigator working on deforestation at the local level? Global Forest Watch is seeking your insights on the type of information that would best help you respond effectively to near-real-time deforestation alerts. GFW will use this information to tailor regular curations of alert data to identify and share recent hotspots of deforestation activity based on their users’ priorities and needs. They plan to share these locations with users directly to aid and further on-the-ground investigations. DIST-ALERT makes it possible to view alerts for all types of tree and vegetation cover on GFW, including 🌾 grassland, 🌿 shrubland,🌱 agricultural land,🌴 savannas, 🌳 temperate forests and 🌲 boreal forests. However, users can also choose to only view alerts within areas of tree cover with at least 30% canopy density across the globe. The Natural Lands Map provides a clear global baseline of natural lands, helping companies set and validate no-conversion targets with SBTN. By integrating the best global and local geospatial data, this open-source tool enables businesses to assess their impacts, guide land-use decisions, and reduce ecosystem conversion. ➡️ What’s next in 2025?
