Jonathan has been with Amazon Singapore for nearly two years, bringing the leadership, problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking skills he developed during his 9 years of service in the RSN. Transitioning into a corporate role at Amazon was smoother than he expected. “The transferable skills like decision-making, process improvement, and people management that I developed in the Navy have been incredibly valuable here,” Jonathan explains. He joined Amazon in December 2022 as an Area Manager with Amazon Fresh, leading a large team and ensuring smooth operations across Singapore. After just over a year, he transitioned into a Field Operations Program Manager role, overseeing Field Delivery Partner Experience, Safety, and Quality, where he continues to expand his skill set as a Program Manager. Jonathan also praises Amazon’s inclusive and efficient hiring process: “The interviews were well-structured, and the team was very responsive. I felt welcomed and supported throughout the transition." Veterans thrive at Amazon because they have the ability to make quick decisions, take ownership, and maintain a bias for action. If you're a military veteran considering a corporate career, we encourage you to explore opportunities at Amazon. With an inclusive culture and opportunities for growth, Amazon could be the perfect fit for you. #AmazonFresh #MilitaryVeterans #Military #Veterans #hiring #Amazon

  • Former Amazon recruiting intern Mackenzie Magnussen spent her internship chatting with new hires and other interns in the operations field. She gathered insights to shape future recruiting strategies and evaluate the effectiveness of current processes. “My project uncovered insights and pain points about our processes and we created strategies to resolve different issues and prepare for upcoming recruiting seasons. Once I off-boarded as an intern, my manager took over my intern project and conducted it numerous more times with different new-hire cohorts,” Mackenzie shares. “My favorite thing about being an Amazon intern was that I could see the work I was doing was truly impactful for my team and I felt so gratified that they trusted me to do the work of a full-time recruiter.” As an intern, Mackenzie took full advantage of the resources available to network with those around her. She met with her manager and mentors often, working on her project strategy, as well as other various day-to-day tasks. “We learned so much from each other and learned how to brainstorm and collaborate to share the wealth of knowledge,” says Mackenzie. Now, Mackenzie is a full-time recruiter with Amazon. Thinking about her career so far, she shares what her biggest impact has been - “I've taken on different projects within my team outside of daily work that have truly shown me how much Amazon invests in the candidate experience for new hires and interns. I have combed through real-time data, worked with stakeholders on and off my team, and conducted market research to understand and provide what matters to university hires,” says Mackenzie. With one final note, Mackenzie offers her advice to future interns, “Say yes to everything - Amazon is a place where you learn new things every day. Remember that you can and will learn something from everyone you collaborate with!” shares Mackenzie. When I think about Amazon, I feel a sense of pride and I am energized by the opportunities to grow. I’m grateful to be an Amazonian." “What I love about Amazon? The equal opportunity for growth and the support system that's always there. I also love the employee engagement activities that always bring the team together.” Living with Transverse Myelitis since 2003 hasn't stopped Suraj from chasing his dreams at Amazon. “I got an opportunity to join a skills development program (called SEED) targeting growth of people with disabilities. "It's fun and exciting...and so cool to be part of a team that has been working on AI and machine learning since its early Alexa days and has now transformed to AGI modeling services," shares Priyanka, Software Development Engineer, Amazon Artificial Generative Intelligence (AGI). Priyanka's journey to Amazon began right after graduation. "At Amazon, I was able to dive into an electric environment where I could shape projects from the initial design phase all the way through deployment, and have the freedom to select the tools I need to get the job done. I really like the culture here, especially the focus on customer obsession - understanding our customer's perspective and working backwards from that is critical for ensuring project success. It's also rewarding to see the full impact of the projects I contribute to and to receive positive feedback directly from customers." As an SDE for AGI, Priyanka works on apps that enable scientists to run experiments and evaluate models. "I get to work with the science teams, developing models across text, audio, Image and video modalities to deliver the best solutions for AWS Bedrock users and to ensure the data going into these models is high-quality while also prioritizing privacy and compliance." When asked about the key to success at Amazon, Priyanka shares "You have to be open to continuously learning new things. This is core to our 'Day 1' culture. There's a steep learning curve at the beginning, but if you stay patient and trust your team, you can thrive here."
