Second Spring Presents: You're Not Alone - Real Stories from the Menopause Journey At Second Spring, we believe menopause is not an ending. It’s a new beginning. But too often, this transition is met with silence. We're here to change that. Join us for a live panel where three women at different stages of the menopause journey will share their personal stories. It will be honest, unfiltered, and deeply human. Our goal is to normalize this conversation and create space for others to share their own experiences. Whether you're in perimenopause, post-menopause, or just curious, you’re welcome here. 🗓️ This is a live, off-the-record event. 📍 Registration is required to maintain a private and supportive space. 📹 It will not be recorded. ✨ Excited to share that I’ll be speaking at an upcoming event on July 23, 2025 at 12 PM EDT hosted by Women in AI Governance (WiAIG), where I’ll be diving into a hot-button issue in the world of AI: copyright, fair use, and the legal complexities of AI training data. My talk will focus on recent decisions in Thomson Reuters v. Ross Intelligence, Bartz v. Anthropic, and Kadrey v. Meta, and what these decisions teach us about incorporating training data into new and existing AI products. It’s an honor to join this community of women driving thoughtful, ethical, and legally sound approaches to AI governance. This event is free and open to all registrants. I hope to see you there! #WomenInAIGovernance #CopyrightAndAI #FairUse #AItrainingdata #copyright

Congratulations to Marguerite Smith on passing the Patent Bar Exam! We are thrilled to celebrate the success of one of our women in IP leaders. Her dedication is an inspiration to all aspiring patent professionals! Marguerite, we look forward to witnessing your continued contributions to the IP field. Check out her post for Patent Bar studying tips and tricks.
I’ve officially passed the Patent Bar Exam! I studied part-time over 4.5 months, using Practising Law Institute (PLI)’s Patent Bar Review course. Here’s what worked for me, hopefully it helps others preparing for this exam: Study Plan: ➡️ Month 1: Watched all the PLI videos and read the binder to build a strong foundation. ➡️ Months 2-3: Completed all the post-course quizzes and took four full-length practice exams on Saturdays. - I failed the first two (low 60s) but stuck with it. - I passed the next two with 73% and 77%. ➡️ Month 3+: Focused review with 25 random questions/day from the custom quiz bank. Biggest Tip - Wrong Answer Journal: ➡️ Across my prep, I did 700+ practice questions, and every time I got one wrong, I logged it in a Google Doc: 1. Screenshot of the question & answer choices 2. Short explanation of why I got it wrong (misread, guessed, concept confusion, etc.) ➡️ This helped me identify weak areas and track patterns in my mistakes. Reviewing that doc weekly was one of the most effective tools I had. Exam Strategy: ➡️ Used a grid system (linked below) to track my status on scratch paper for all 5 potential answers to a question: ✅ confident the answer choice is right ❌ confident the answer choice is wrong ❓ unsure of the answer choice and may need to search ➡️ Wrote down the MPEP chapter number I thought each question belonged to, above each of the 50 Qs per section. Practicing this helped me quickly locate answers in the MPEP on exam day. ➡️ I didn’t start searching until I’d attempted every question. This left me with about 1 hour per section to go back and verify. This exam was challenging, but consistency helped. If you're preparing or considering taking the Patent Bar, feel free to reach out — I’m happy to share resources or talk about what worked. **May didn’t walk—**it sprinted! 🏃♀️💨 Between coastlines and conference halls, I had the incredible opportunity to attend both the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) Spring Meeting in Minneapolis and the International Trademark Association (INTA) Annual Meeting in San Diego—and what a whirlwind it’s been! May is always a busy time for IP professionals, with AIPLA and INTA typically back-to-back. This year was no exception: 3 days in Minneapolis, 5 days in San Diego, and countless conversations, insights, and memories in between. Now that I’ve had a moment to reflect, here are some of my biggest takeaways: ✅ There’s always room to grow. The leadership at AIPLA— Kimberly Van Voorhis, Matthew Wagner, Melissa Buss, Bea Swedlow and countless others continues to inspire. Huge shoutout to the Women in IP Committee Chair and Vice Chair, Amy Schmid and Michelle Fabry, Esq. for putting together an amazing program, again! So impressed by the powerhouse social media duo, Bree Vculek and Chloe Kirk, Ph.D. for capturing the best moments from the conference. ✅ Work relationships are personal relationships. Even if it’s just once a year, putting names to faces, seeing familiar faces, and catching up—on career moves, family additions, and everything in between—reminds me how strong and supportive this community is. ✅ Committees = connection. Being active on committees in these organizations goes beyond networking. It builds trust, ownership, and real relationships. Bonus: you make some amazing friends along the way. ✅ I need to get better at taking photos. Thankfully, others were on it—so here are a few great shots (not taken by me) from both conferences. Grateful for a month full of ideas, people, and possibilities. Here’s to a slightly slower-paced—but just as fulfilling—summer ahead! ☀️ #AIPLA #INTA2025 #WomenInIP #IPCommunity #Leadership #Mentorship #ProfessionalGrowth #Networking Joel Samuels, George Chen, Marianne C.
