What Would Your Life Look Like with the Right Opportunities?

As 2024 winds down, you might find yourself thinking about what’s next. Maybe this year didn’t go the way you’d hoped. Maybe you’ve spent months looking for work or upskilling opportunities that never came, or maybe you’ve felt stuck, waiting for a chance that never arrived. But what if that chance was finally here? What if someone believed in you, invested in you, and gave you the tools and community to build the future you want?

That’s the story of Lindokuhle Skosana

Lindo was in the same place that so many young people in South Africa find themselves: unemployed, unsure, and trying to figure out his next move. Coding was something he had never done before. He had no experience, no path to follow, and no clear idea of how things could change.

“Four months ago, I was unemployed. I came here with no coding experience.” - Lindokuhle Skosana

Then he joined Project Y, and everything started to shift.

At first, it was about learning the basics. Small steps, like writing his first “Hello World” in JavaScript. But soon, those small steps turned into something much bigger.

“My life has changed from writing ‘Hello World’ in JavaScript to today, I’m creating 10 apps a month. I can create five apps a week.”  - Lindokuhle Skosana

Lindo didn’t just gain new skills—he gained confidence, independence, and a sense of purpose. The things that once seemed out of reach were now part of his everyday life. He found a job, moved into his own place, and even started a new chapter in his personal life.

“I’m employed, I’m married, I’m staying in my own place, I’m paying my bills, I’m buying my groceries.”  - Lindokuhle Skosana

Lindo’s transformation didn’t happen by accident. It happened because someone believed in him. Because he became part of a community that gave him the tools, support, and encouragement he needed to succeed.

“I’d explain Project Y as a community. Project Y would offer you everything that you need. They would offer you all the critical skills and the soft skills that you’re going to need in the future. Somebody invested in me, somebody believed in me.”  - Lindokuhle Skosana

What About You?

Maybe your story sounds a lot like Lindo’s. Maybe you’ve been trying to find work, but nothing has clicked. Maybe you feel like the lack of experience, or the lack of opportunity is holding you back. You’re not alone.

In South Africa, 45.5% of young people between 15 and 34 are unemployed (Stats SA, 2024a). The challenges are real, but so are the possibilities. Imagine learning skills that employers are searching for, coding, data analytics, tech sales. Imagine having someone hand you the tools you need: a laptop, a workspace, and a stipend to help cover your living costs while you learn. Imagine a mentor guiding you, keeping you on track, and helping you stay motivated.

If you’re 18 or older, living in South Africa, and ready to commit to a six-month program, this could be your chance to change everything. You don’t need a university degree, just the determination to work hard and the belief that your future can look different from your present.

Just like someone believed in Lindo, someone believes in you. Your story isn’t finished yet.

So, what would your life look like with the right opportunities?
