Tech London Advocates Investor Showcase 2.0
Tech London Advocates hosts Investor Showcase 2.0
In recent years, the UK tech ecosystem has experienced unprecedented growth – with 2018 investment figures signaling a pleasing diversification of the sector across the tech verticals - as Blockchain and AI closed ground on Britain’s world-leading Fintech’s.
UK tech has now witnessed globally significant exits and funding rounds, with IPOs and mergers worth $40bn in the year just gone, topping the charts in Europe and once again reclaiming the title.
Back in 2017, with tech investment burgeoning, TLA hosted its first Investor Showcase with three fundamental aims: to promote the success of London as a destination for tech investment, to debate the potential challenges facing UK tech and to highlight London’s international strengths as a digital hub, that despite the referendum vote, was open for business.
Now, two years on and with a climate of uncertainty prevailing, many of the questions we left the discussion expecting to have been answered - remain as prevalent as ever.
With businesses seemingly no closer to a politically stable environment, could London’s leading position in European tech now be under threat?
According to data from London & Partners, venture capital heading into London’s tech sector declined by 29% in 2018. At the same time, investment in Berlin almost doubled, reaching just under £1bn. Paris also experienced an increase of more than 40%.
Is this just a correction after years of unprecedented growth? Is this a warning sign for the damage caused by Brexit? Is London ahead of the curve and feeling the effects of the ‘techlash’?
On May 2nd, TLA’s Investor Showcase 2.0 returns to take on the big questions. Bringing together tech leaders, investors and key stakeholders on the hunt for answers - as we look at what 2019 could have in store for UK tech.
Keynote speakers and panel sessions will hold fought, debating the Brexit latest and sharing expert insight – from across the tech ecosystem, those within government, the media, start-ups, scale-ups, corporations along with capital markets, private equity, angels.
Taking to the stage will be Greg Williams, Wired, Manish Madhvani, GP Bullhound, Jared Delaney-Smith, Credit Suisse, Stephen Welton, BGF plus many more.
The Investor Showcase 2.0 will convene London’s tech community to get behind UK digital businesses and to generate the confidence to double down on the successes to date and approach the year ahead with an ambition and commitment that will see the sector reach new heights.
It could not come at a better time – two years after the Prime Minister published Article 50 and in the middle of the Brexit chaos, the Investor Showcase is a call to action for leaders to regroup on some of the largest issues facing UK tech, take stock and forge on.
