A Letter from Our CEO, Romain Moulin

Today is a defining moment for Exotec. In 2015, Renaud Heitz and I started the company with our first Skypod system, a technology designed to solve businesses’ largest warehouse problems. In the past 10 years, we now have over 130 client sites, grown to more than a thousand employees, and expanded outside of France into Central Europe, North America, and APAC. And now, we are proud to launch the Next-Generation of Skypod, a new AS/RS solution for the “total” warehouse.

The Next-Gen Skypod is the culmination of our team’s efforts to set a new standard for warehouse automation. At the heart of this process is the voice of our customers. Through ongoing conversations, we identified the need for a solution that simplifies operations while addressing persistent warehouse difficulties. 

Our design philosophy at Exotec is rooted in elegance. For us, we define elegance by its engineering and mathematical meaning: a non-obvious yet simple and effective solution to a highly complex problem. Our team tackled this challenge like solving a complex mathematical problem. We believed it was possible to arrive at a simple, elegant solution with far-reaching impact. The journey was not without challenges. At times, we considered starting over entirely. However, by staying closely aligned with our customers’ needs, we developed an AS/RS solution that empowers the modern warehouse.

Next-Generation Skypod is a flexible, agile solution that serves as a foundational layer. As consumer demands intensify, our customers require systems that are adaptable and responsive to the market changes. We’ve made a number of design improvements, including a new and more compact Skypod robot, denser storage, high-throughput Exchanger, and a workstation for robot-to-robot picking. But the key differentiator is we now support a number of value-added logistic features that traditionally required external equipment and complex subsystems. All can be done within our system.

Throughout the last 10 years of growth, and especially during today’s launch, I’m most impressed with how nimble our team remains. We keep the start-up spirit despite being a large global business, constantly challenging the status quo to ensure we deliver what our customers need most. The Next-Generation of Skypod System prompts a new approach to warehouse automation. One that is evolved, elegant, and established. 

Thank you to all the Exopeople enabling today’s milestone. This is just the beginning of our next decade and I’m excited to see how our customers redefine their own supply chains with the Next-Generation Skypod System.
