7 Powerful Benefits When Leaders Let Go

"They wanted me to take on another role, Cate. After soul searching I decided I needed to let go of this self sabotaging belief that I needed to feel responsible for everyone all the time." My client and I then began to do the happy dance. Okay figuratively. You see, Sue is a powerhouse leader I coached and her decision to make herself a priority and not accept the pressure and step away from her old limiting belief that she was responsible for everyone was not only freeing for her wellbeing but a major mind shift.

Here are 7 reasons you need to Let Go more as a Leader:

  1. Letting go allows you to Lean in to what matters most. In Sue's case she had contributed more than her share and she was in a different phase of her career.
  2. Letting go allows you to shed the days interactions so you leave them at work versus take it home with you. When you shut your office door whether that is your work/home office let your home life begin.
  3. Letting go allows you to free space up in your calendar for "me time". Whether that means booking a massage, taking a walk, asking for help or getting lost in your hobby, you are making yourself a much needed priority.
  4. Letting go allows you to recharge your energy so you will be fresh, more on point and bring your best self forward.
  5. Letting go breathes life into your vision, your purpose and gets you refocused on your #1 priorities.
  6. Letting go helps you loosen your leadership underwear so you aren't in your head so much. Allowing yourself to go play and lean in to joy makes you a better leader, a better parent, a better partner and a better friend. Playfulness is a vital part of creativity.
  7. Letting go is the greatest form of self-compassion. And yes, you're so worth it!
