The Cold Call Conundrum

If you're in the sales biz, you're likely familiar with the dreaded cold call. I mean, let's face it, who among us wakes up, stretches, sips our steaming cup of joe and says, "Wow, I can't wait to make and receive unsolicited calls today"? I'm going to guess no one! And why is that? Because it's intrusive, impersonal, and it interrupts people while they're trying to win their daily bread or worse, right in the middle of their favorite Netflix binge.

Traditional Methods: Are They Worth It?

Before we bid adieu to the cold call and the generic automated email, let's take a moment to reflect on their effectiveness. After all, these methods have been around for a while, they must have something going for them, right?

According to Statista, the conversion rate for these traditional methods is about 3%. That means, for every hundred leads you contact, you're likely to convert only about three into sales. Let that sink in. The time, the effort, the energy, all for a 3% success rate.

So if you're one of those people clinging onto your list of leads, insisting on sending automatic emails or making cold calls, maybe it's time to ask yourself: "Is this really the best way to convert conversations into sales?"

A Better Way to Connect: WhatsApp

Now, what if I told you there's a better way to connect with leads and convert them into customers? A way that's less invasive, more personal, and respects people's time? Drum roll, please... it's WhatsApp!

Why WhatsApp?

Yes, folks, you heard it right! The handy-dandy app we use to chat with our pals, share memes, and coordinate potlucks is also a fantastic tool for transforming leads into gold. Why, you ask? Well, WhatsApp offers a unique opportunity to give your leads a warm intro, without making them feel like they're being put on the spot.

Example: a new lead comes into my pipeline and I sent this person this WhatsApp message:

Hey Tom, this is Simone from Stone in the Shoe, I saw that you downloaded our DeepFlo™ methodology form our website earlier today. If you're interested let me know when it would be a good time to have a quick call and I can personally walk you through it. It's today at 5 pm okay?

This approach has got a number of benefits:

  1. It's not intrusive
  2. It doesn't interrupt the other person in the middle of his or her life
  3. It's a warm personal introduction that will most likely get a response
  4. It lets the other person in control of deciding when to be called

In our experience, this approach generates up to 10 times more conversions.

The problem is that the online campaigns that we run generate often hundreds of leads per month. That's not a volume that you want to deal with, sending WhatsApp messages just with your smartphone and your index finger.

Dealing with High Volume Leads

But hey, we're not running a small lemonade stand, are we? We're dealing with hundreds, if not thousands of leads, and the last thing you want is to sit at your desktop, typing out messages to these leads one by one. Sounds like a sequel to the nightmare that was cold-calling.

The WhatsApp Trick

Here's the plot twist, though. There's a cool trick that lets you use WhatsApp to chat up your leads without having to add them to your contacts or type out individual messages. A script and a simple URL structure is all it takes!

The How-To: Simple, Efficient Lead Management

You're probably itching to know how, so here it is. First of all, download WhatsApp for desktop, here is the link. Prepare your script, an introduction that strikes the perfect balance between friendly and professional. Next, copy your lead's phone number (don't forget their name, it will come in handy just now), and in your browser type "wa.me/" followed by the phone number (including the country code, with or without the + sign). Presto! A chat window with your lead pops open, ready for you to personalize with their name and paste your script.

Staying Organized

Now, I know what you're thinking. What if you get swamped with responses? With this tactic, you can send out hundreds of messages per hour, but when they reply you can only see their phone number, not their names.

That's why it's crucial to always begin your script with the name of the lead you're contacting, for instance, "Dear Mr. Smith," or "Hey Tom". In this way, when they reply you can check on your CRM or on the leads spreadsheet who is the person that replied and you can write your notes there.

You might think this method is a bit too left-field. But the numbers don't lie, folks. WhatsApp boasts a whopping 2.3 billion users, which pretty much guarantees a good chunk of your leads will be reachable via this platform. From our experience running hundreds of campaigns, we've found this WhatsApp strategy to be our secret weapon in converting leads into sales.

Now I won't go as far as saying it's the only way to "convert leads" effectively, but it's definitely worth a shot, especially if cold calling has left you cold. So, there you have it, the modern way of reaching out to your leads - all thanks to WhatsApp. Remember, it's all about making connections that are warm, respectful, and efficient. And the best part is, it saves you from being the cold caller everyone loves to hate!
