Principal Engineer at Apple

Silicon Valley is filled with inspiring stories of smart and hardworking individuals, yet the story of Bing, my friend and former colleague at Meta, truly deserves a wider audience.

100K Citations Achieved I still remember 2015, when Facebook voided my NCG offer because I didn’t get the H1B lottery, and I didn’t even have 50 citations to meet Fragomen's O-1 visa bar. I was stuck in a basement buried under snow, trying to figure out how to move forward. Thankfully, my supervisor, Dale Schuurmans, gave me extra scholarships and the freedom to pursue whatever I was passionate about. By the end of 2015, I received O-1 sponsorship from Carlos Guestrin and his company, Turi. I packed up my basement life, took my $6,000 bank draft paper, and made the leap to the US. Citation numbers may not mean much now, but I am always grateful to those who supported me when I didn’t have enough citations to make a living.

Great reminder that you can't hire people based purely on the size of their past achievements. You need to be able to assess potentials.
