Show affiliations Beschreibung In the dynamic landscape of higher education, digital technologies are crucial for fostering collaboration and knowledge dissemination. European universities are embracing this shift through “European Universities”, transnational alliances aimed at enhancing academic exchange and innovation. The Unite! alliance, as part of its Erasmus+ project, established the “Community Digital Campus” (Cm.2) to develop a modern digital campus framework. Based on an analysis to identify and document the technological, organizational, and legal needs for such a campus, using desk research, surveys, and stakeholder discussions, key requirements are formulated. Key requirements identified include ensuring interoperability among digital infrastructures, robust decision-making processes for IT, strategic support for existing systems, and addressing budgetary considerations for federated systems. I haven't been to a WIG briefing in ages, so it was great to be back and to hear from Felicity Burch, Responsible Tech Adoption Unit in DSIT, setting out the priorities of her unit within Government and in support of the private sector. These were: understand the public's concerns; address the (less existential) risks; and share a positive vision to drive adoption. Questions included: where do we see the preferred space for the continued engagement of human faculties (and therefore the desired limits of AI); what barriers does the unit see to widespread use within the public sector; and when thinking about wider adoption, how do policy makers currently distinguish between the fears and preferences of citizens? Top coffee, view across London and conversations afterwards, too.

An important document for all involved in data driven R&D projects, including AI based research and developments in various technical fields. Improving the access to research results and data created in EU funded R&D projects will provide additional training data for AI tools used in In Silico research, development of process technologies, clinical trials etc., however, such access can also result in controversies with parties involved in the development of the results and data. The extension of existent access rights in EU funded R&D projects can also have a negative impact if companies do not participate or do not introduce data protected as trade secrets in such R&D projects to avoid the risks resulting from excessive access rights. Access rights therefore need to be carefully balanced and have to protect trade secrets. #tradesecrets

The UK has unveiled its #AI Opportunities Action Plan, a bold framework designed to position the nation as a leader in AI #innovation. While the plan outlines numerous recommendations, I will focus on key critical areas: ➡️ The #Infrastructure Challenge The UK government’s commitment to establishing a National #Data Library and increasing public sector compute capacity by at least 20 times is a commendable step. This includes plans for new #datacentres and a national supercomputer, which are essential to meet the surging computational demands of AI research and development. However, the current state of infrastructure presents challenges: 📢 Data Centre Capacity: While the UK hosts numerous data centres, the growing needs of AI workloads require significant expansion. To remain competitive the #UK must focus on building scalable, state-of-the-art facilities that are optimized for AI processes. 📢 Sustainable #Energy Integration: The UK’s can easily align data centre operations with #sustainability goals. By integrating renewable energy sources, the UK can create a green AI ecosystem that attracts environmentally conscious #investors and companies. 📢 Access to Compute for Startups: Offering #compute credits to startups through #public-private partnerships can lower barriers to entry and enable smaller players to innovate at scale without prohibitive costs. 📢 Talent and Immigration: Bridging the Gap Streamline Immigration Processes: Simplified visa pathways for AI professionals, researchers, and entrepreneurs are essential. Upskilling Domestic Talent: Investments in AI education and training are crucial to developing a steady pipeline of homegrown talent. Competing on the Global Stage AI Growth Zones: The introduction of AI Growth Zones, designed to expedite #planning permissions and provide critical infrastructure, mirrors successful models from regions like the Middle East. Collaborating with Industry Giants: #London’s role as a global AI hub is pivotal. With major players like Google DeepMind, OpenAI, and Anthropic already established in the city, the UK can leverage their presence to enhance cross-sector collaboration, knowledge sharing, and talent development To secure its position as a global AI leader, the UK must: 🌟 Accelerate Infrastructure Development: Build and operationalize new data centres while ensuring they are powered by renewable energy. 🌟 Expand Talent Pipelines: Simplify visa restrictions and invest heavily in upskilling domestic talent to meet industry demands. 🌟 Foster Public-Private Partnerships: Collaborate with industry leaders to provide equitable access to computational resources and share best practices. #weareharringtonblue Harrington Blue & Partners Cecilia Thon Syakira Fildza Nazhifan Jose Andres Aguilar Mora Google Microsoft Tamara Medina Tech London Advocates Women in Tech Data Centre Magazine https://lnkd.in/eVr9VkNP

The official launch of the #EOSC EU Node services, announced yesterday at the #EOSCSymposium2024 by the European Commission, marks a critical milestone in its goal to accelerate scientific progress and innovation through #OpenScience across Europe: https://lnkd.in/g6T-TqdP The EOSC #EUNode now includes a robust set of services that address key challenges in modern #research workflows, allowing users to operate efficiently within data-intensive environments, and facilitating collaboration across borders —all within a secure and highly integrated environment. The EOSC EU Node is the first European-level node of the emerging EOSC Federation, which is envisioned to be a network of interconnected autonomous nodes, all operating under a common framework of standards, policies, and best practices. GÉANT and the NREN Community are excited to support the EOSC EU Node as it grows and evolves.
