New Zealand firm Vessev has unveiled what it claims is the world’s first premium tourist electric hydrofoil. The 8.95m long catamaran, with a flat wingdeck from bow to stern, is just four tonnes in weight when fully loaded, carrying 10 passengers and one skipper. With a top speed of 30 knots it can cruise at 25 knots for up to 50 nautical miles, Vessev says, operating on purely battery power. The vessel has been designed to be scalable, says CEO Eric Laakmann, and is as comfortable as a larger vessel because of the foils, which lift it 50cm clear of the waves and create less wake. “One way of looking at the impact of this vessel is that our waterways today are like roadways, where the only comfortable mode of transport is very large multi-passenger buses, ie ferries. These large vessels are here to stay, but they will be augmented with point-to-point services delivered by vessels such as the CS-9. “It’s like introducing a limo into a world of buses.” The VS-9 will join the Fullers360 fleet, the largest ferry operator in New Zealand, once it has completed the final phase of sea trials, which have already begun. Historic Cambridge Aerodrome Tasmania for sale by Raine and Horne A cornerstone of Tasmania’s aviation history, Cambridge Aerodrome for sale by Raine and Horne agent Leslie Simpson. The Cambridge Aerodrome holds a rich history. Purchased by the Australian Government in 1934, it served as Hobart’s main airport until the opening of the nearby Hobart International Airport in 1956. Since 1992, the Wells family, owners of Par Avion and Airlines of Tasmania, the aerodrome's main tenants, has privately owned and operated Cambridge Aerodrome. This key hub supports general aviation, including emergency services, scenic flights, and pilot training. Par Avion and Airlines of Tasmania occupy most of the site, providing chartered flights, scenic wilderness tours, and pilot training. Mr Simpson confirmed, "We already have aviation businesses interested in building on the Wells family's legacy, as well as developers considering the re-zoning potential of the utilities portion of the site that is approximately 31.5 hectares. In addition, there is already light industrial land parcels (around 3.4 hectares) with significant underlying value. “It’s a big piece of potential industrial land within arguably Tasmania’s highest growth industrial-commercial precinct featuring 196 metres of frontage to busy Kennedy Drive.” Read more on The INDUSTRIALIST: https://lnkd.in/g54bSbZr The ASEAN Developer The Hotel Conversation COMMO Raine & Horne Group Raine & Horne Commercial Shaun Mathieson Mark Nicholls Mark (Mahmoud) Ammoun Dain Cairns Shannon Wells Airlines of Tasmania (Par Avion) Don Wells #hobartrealestate #airportnews #aviationnews #aviationindustry #industrialland #supplychain #industrildevelopment #logisticsnews #logisticsindustry #airports #paravion #tasmaniabusiness

VESSEL REVIEW: Norwegian boat builder Brødrene Aa recently delivered a new catamaran sightseeing vessel ordered by tour operator Brim Explorer. Named 'Bard', the 26-metre (85-foot) vessel was designed jointly by Hareide Design Mill and Wave Propulsion to be capable of transporting 146 passengers. 'Bard' is also the first vessel in the owner’s fleet built with cabins and a rest area specifically for use by the crew. This will ensure crew comfort on long voyages between the Norwegian mainland and the Svalbard archipelago, in addition to serving as additional lodging during crew changes. With the change of the propulsion setup from a parallel hybrid on Brim Explorer’s previous vessel to a serial hybrid with a direct drive propulsion on 'Bard', the energy efficiency of the propulsion increased significantly, leading to a reduction in fuel consumption of as much as 30 per cent. When operating in hybrid mode, excess heat from the diesel engines is used to help make the saloons’ onboard environment. Full article link in comments.
