The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) just released updated considerations for developing internal policies to ensure responsible, legal, and ethical use of generative AI tools by employees and vendors. As an organization using or planning to adopt generative AI, it's crucial to: • Ensure compliance with data protection, security, and anti-discrimination laws • Provide training on limitations, risks, and appropriate uses • Establish clear policies on approved uses and require disclosure • Implement systems to document and verify outputs • Recognize ongoing responsibilities like impact assessments and auditing • Balance system outputs with legal requirements, values, and policies to mitigate harms • Engage cross-functional experts to identify and address a wide range of legal issues The rapid advancement of generative AI is pushing us all to quickly adapt our governance frameworks. Comprehensive, evolving internal policies and training are essential to reap the benefits while proactively managing risks and unintended consequences.
