I'm pleased to share a new video on my blog, Learn at a Distance, that explores AI in teaching and learning. It’s called Embracing AI: Transforming Pedagogy for the Digital Age. This video draws from the slides from a recent faculty development session and explores how artificial intelligence is reshaping educational landscapes. This feature adds a sort of personal touch while demonstrating the incredible potential of AI in education. It’s also kind of…scary? The journey of creating this video was a collaborative endeavor with AI at its core – if one is "collaborating" with an artificial intelligence. I worked with ChatGPT to create the script that summarized my slides. To accomplish this, I simply uploaded the slides to ChatGPT and it did the rest. Some of the images in the slides were generated by Dall-E. This video is not a presentation; it's an example of how AI can change our teaching. By blending AI-generated voice narration, scriptwriting, and visuals, we're glimpsing the future of educational content creation. I'm eager to hear your thoughts, insights, and how you envision the role of AI in the evolution of education. Use AI for grading and feedback - detailed feedback is essential to student success. However, effective communication of this feedback to the modern student is going to be important. All students want a personalized approach, and this can be challenging in larger classes and with tighter schedules. Use AI to automate routine tasks so you can free up your time for individual student support using the personal touch, such as meeting with a student, having a conversation, offering your perspective, guidance, advice and assurance. The future of education is human-AI collaboration, not replacement. The University of Sydney is taking a proactive approach to integrating Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT into the educational experience. Danny Liu and Adam Bridgeman list their teaching tips in the article "Should we use generative artificial intelligence tools for marking and feedback?“ Their outlined framework prioritizes ethical considerations and responsible use of AI in teaching and learning. Here's a breakdown of the key principles: - Students will be clearly informed when AI tools are used for feedback and formative grading. Consent will be obtained to ensure trust and ethical implementation of AI in assessments. - And likening to the KEATH.ai "Human-in-the-Loop" Model: While AI can offer assistance with refining feedback and suggestions, human educators retain final authority over grading decisions and core feedback content. - Data protection is also priority. Stringent guidelines guarantee student privacy and data security when utilizing AI tools for educational purposes. - It's also essential to distinguish formative and summative assessments. Thus, they propose that AI-generated marks and feedback are permitted for formative assessments (practice exercises) to enhance learning. However, summative assessments (final grades) will rely solely on human expertise. - And last, their "Regular Reviews for Fairness" follows the same formality that we at KEATH.ai recommend for feedback: AI-generated marks and feedback for formative assessments will undergo regular review by human educators. This ensures fairness, effectiveness, and the quality of the learning experience.
