This should be very exciting. And it comes as Claudia Lemke, Dr. Doreen N. Myrie and myself begin writing not only on the benefits, but also and crucially, on the possible dangers and inherent ingrained #inequalities, of the rush to digitalise learning at the expense of #neurodivergent students.

🧠 Is this the era of neurodiversity? Personally I hope so 🧠 New research from Made By Dyslexia has found that 'Dyslexic Thinking' skills are now the most sought after in every sector globally. And businesses are listening, EY for starters. Yes yes yes! I knew it! In the new and ever growing AI world we are finding ourselves in, human skills such as lateral thinking, complex problem-solving and interpersonal skills are the ones that will become more and more valuable.    🔸 8 years ago I made a film for the Oda Oxfordshire Dyslexia Association where I was a trustee at the time. It was a simple congratulations for being diagnosed with dyslexia. Ok it was painfully low budget and pretty cheesy, but it worked, it now has 100k views and countless comments. As a dyslexic I was tired of the narratives being condescending, often making the positives simply an afterthought. Yes it can be hard, but that is the system not the person. 🔷 Dyslexia is why I'm creative, why my ideas are unique, and why I can communicate a message so clearly.   🔴 So here we are, and off the back of the research Richard Branson and Virgin have teamed up with The Open University to launch the University of Dyslexic Thinking. It's impossible for me to express how much of a revolution this feels like. 🔸 And now big businesses are also realising the potential, Gillian Hinde at EY along with Made By Dyslexics are spearheading an internal initiative in the company as well as producing resources for schools to show the huge potential. I am dyslexic and so are my children. This is the first time I’ve have spoken about this because I have felt stigmatismed my whole life due to dyslexia so, I have hidden it and hidden it well. Today I use AI as my copilot to correct my spelling, keep up with my ideas and hide my dyslexia. AI enables me to focus on my ideas, patters and strategy rather than spelling. Being dyslexic has caused my family much heartache over the years. The feelings of being useless, constantly being told you are going to fail because you can’t spell or read out loud, as a child it is just traumatising. The UK school system is just not designed for dyslexics to thrive. We are thriving though, and teachers where surprised how brilliant my boys were when they were given a human scribe. Yes, you read that correctly, a human scribe. In the age of AI our schools provide people rather than technology to help children with spelling and grammar….🤯 My questions are: Why is our school system still set up for dyslexic children to fail in this digital age? How do we change this and get schools to use technology to help these children achieve their best? #dyslexia #dyslexicthinking
