This Book Connected the Dots for Me on Technology and Thinking I just finished reading The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains by Nicholas Carr for the second time, and this time around, it really got me thinking. The book dives into how technology—from the Internet to calculators to books—has shaped how we think and process information. Here’s a fun fact: when books first became mainstream, they were demonized for “ruining” memory because people no longer needed to memorize as much. Sound familiar? (Cough, cough, tablets and video games.) But fast forward, and books became synonymous with deep thought and intellect. Carr suggests we’re seeing a similar shift with modern tech. Sure, tools like the Internet seems to be reducing further our reliance on memory, but they also open doors for faster processing and new ways of thinking. He begs us to look at the net benefits of introducing new technology. It made me wonder: Could GenAI be the next big leap in reshaping our cognitive functions? Could it possibly free up brain bandwidth for deeper thoughts? This ties so much into my work on the Diversity of Thought (DoT) Score. The way we consume and process information impacts how diverse our thinking can be. Technology, for better or worse, plays a massive role in shaping those pathways. Anyway, if you are looking for a new book to read, I recommend this one! Else, here is lecture Carr gave at John Adams Institute. And I would love to read a new edition of it now including GenAi in the scope. #DiversityOfThought #AI #CMM #GrowthMindset #Innovation #ThoughtLeadership #EchoChambers https://lnkd.in/eTVveVkt

AI: Friend or Foe to Democracy? 🤖❓ As we approach a pivotal election, the role of artificial intelligence in shaping our democratic landscape has never been more crucial. With 69% of voters concerned about misinformation, the stakes are high. Imagine this: - Voters are receiving deceptive calls mimicking candidates—what a nightmare! - AI-generated images flood campaign ads, blurring the lines of truth. - Targeted messages could suppress turnout by up to 20%. These alarming trends highlight a growing risk: unregulated AI systems that could undermine civil rights and erode the very essence of a free society. Without oversight, we risk drifting toward a new kind of illiberalism, where democracy becomes a mere façade. Join the conversation! What are your thoughts on AI's impact on our elections?
