Aanika Biosciences, Inc. will be discussing a new product today, allowing manufacturers, retailers, applicators and farmers to trace the drift of agrochemcials. Spray drift is a major problem in agriculture. Dicamba was recently banned by the EPA due to labeling issues, which stem from the allegation that the off-target movement of the chemical damaged over 4 million acres of soy beans alone ($2.4 BILLION in damages). But drift is much larger than even dicamba. Bayer BASF and Syngenta and other agrochemical companies face massive liabilities around around this issue and are potentially on the hook for billions of dollars. These cases all hinge on the fact that it is difficult to actually determine whether or not drift has occurred and from where. Right now, farmers and regulators look at leaf curling on their crops and conduct some testing, but these methods fall short considering the material impact of these cases. Bayer stock is down 70% over the past few years. To this end, Jamie Richards, PhD and Daniel J. Luciano, PhD have successfully demonstrated that our proprietary biological tags CAN TRACE CHEMICAL SPRAY DRIFT with over 95% accuracy. Our low-cost, highly robust tags can allow individual batches of these chemicals to contain a unique, USDA, APHIS, FDA, EPA compliant marker, in every application of glyphosate or dicamba. Not only would this allow for a more responsible method of deploying these products but also potentially limiting the liability of everyone involved and quantifying where drift is actually occurs. Coupled with weather data and spray logs, our technology is the missing dataset necessary to assess what is truly happening. This could not only save companies hundreds of millions in litigation costs (perhaps much more), but help manufacturers enhance the safety of their agrochemical products. This could also help provide better insurance coverage for all stakeholders. To learn more about this ground breaking work, please attend our online event today at 12pm ET. 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 https://lnkd.in/epBSVG7G #agrochemicals #agriculture #monsanto #farming #drift

This post shows how much top crop protection players are already investing to develop new biological products.
This chart shows some interesting figures of how much top Crop Protection players are investing in R&D to develop biological products. The ratio of investment / current revenue varies a lot in between these companies Bayer (11.6x), Syngenta (3.5x), Corteva (3.2x), FMC (1.8x) and UPL (0.5x), and that shows their committement to develop new biological products and the common belief that the market will grow significantly in the future.

Decades of denial ? As lawsuits mount, Syngenta faces accountability over Paraquat herbicide’s links to Parkinson’s disease. Over 6,000 people, are suing Syngenta, alleging its popular weedkiller, Gramoxone (paraquat), caused their Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's is a debilitating condition that destroys motor functions. Syngenta, one of the largest agricultural chemical companies, disputes the claims. Despite growing evidence, the company has long maintained no connection between paraquat and Parkinson's. Plaintiffs argue Syngenta knew of the risks but failed to warn users. So many lives are impacted for profit. The lawsuits seek justice and accountability for those suffering from paraquat-related illnesses due to exposure to paraquat. #banhhps #phaseouthhp #Paraquat #PublicHealth #Parkinsons #EnvironmentalJustice https://lnkd.in/ddyQT3bS

Last week, Georgia’s Department of Agriculture released its proposed rules and regulations to implement SB 494, a comprehensive framework for regulating the consumable hemp product industry. We’ve covered SB 494 in detail in our blog, but these proposed rules seek to go farther than the bill. One proposal sure to generate pushback from the industry, and possible lawsuits—proposed milligram limits for THC-infused products.

🚨 **CALL TO ACTION: Defend Georgia's Hemp Industry and Patients' Rights!** 🚨 The Georgia Department of Agriculture has introduced new rules and regulations under SB 494 that could impose strict limits on THC content in hemp products and put undue pressure on compliant businesses. While parts of SB 494 address real concerns with bad actors in the industry, the bill also contains harmful provisions that threaten the livelihood of law-abiding businesses and limit access to essential hemp products for patients. The Georgia Medical Cannabis Society (GMCS) previously urged Governor Kemp to veto this bill because, despite its good intentions, it fails to recognize the complexities and needs of our community. The excuse that Georgia has a low-dose THC program does not justify these overreaching regulations. The program is far too limited, with not enough qualifying conditions to include everyone who needs access to cannabis. Furthermore, not everyone wants or can afford to get a medical cannabis card due to the complexities involved, such as the impact on federal gun permits and other legal concerns. We understand that not everyone can afford the high costs of low-dose THC products from dispensaries. Patients rely on smokeable hemp and other products provided by CBD stores for relief that is both accessible and affordable. These new regulations are not fair to the patients who need all forms of the plant that have brought them comfort and healing. We are focusing on the problematic language in this bill that could undermine the very foundation of the hemp industry in Georgia. We urge everyone involved—from CBD stores to vape shops, and most importantly, the patients—to submit your comments to the Agriculture Commissioner. Your voice is crucial in protecting the future of hemp in Georgia and ensuring that all patients have access to the relief they deserve. 📅 **Deadline for Comments:** September 6, 2024 🕒 **Public Hearing:** September 9, 2024, at 1 PM 📍 **Location:** Room 201, Georgia Department of Agriculture, 19 M.L.K. Jr. Drive SW, Atlanta, GA 30334 ✉️ **Submit Comments to:** Bruce Stanford Georgia Department of Agriculture 19 M.L.K Jr. Drive SW Atlanta, Georgia 30334 **Email:** [email protected] Let’s stand together to ensure that regulations are fair, support both the industry and community, and recognize the full spectrum of patient needs. ✊ #HempForAll #ProtectOurIndustry #PatientsOverProfits #AccessForAll

"Senate Democrats have released the long-awaited text of an agriculture bill that contains several proposed changes to federal hemp laws—including provisions to amend how the legal limit of THC is measured and reducing regulatory barriers for farmers who grow the crop for grain or fiber. But certain stakeholders are concerned that part of the intent of the legislation is to “eliminate a whole range of products” that are now sold in the market." #cannabisnews #hemp #hempbusiness #hempindustry #hirehigher
