I believe the future of agriculture needs to be regenerative. Maya Zamir and M.A. Miller offer a compelling look at investing in regenerative farming and ranching in 2024 - the benefits as well as the potential risks of a failure to transition away from conventional practices and some of the opportunities that investors have to invest in sustainable and regenerative agriculture to help mitigate climate change and build wealth in farming communities in a way that addresses gender and racial inequities.

Researchers make surprising discovery after examining farmers' regenerative agriculture practices: 'More than just money' Game-changing research revealed the reality behind farmers' relationsips with regenerative agriculture. Here are 3 main insights: 1) Motivation Beyond Money: Farmers are increasingly adopting regenerative agriculture not just for potential financial gains from carbon credits, but for personal freedom, improved quality of life, and environmental benefits. They seek to reduce dependence on high-input, chemical-intensive farming methods. 2) Community Support is Key: The transition to regenerative practices fosters increased solidarity among farmers. They form support networks to share resources and navigate challenges, highlighting the importance of community in achieving sustainable farming goals. 3) Barriers to Carbon Programs: Many farmers are deterred from participating in carbon credit programs due to low financial returns and cumbersome paperwork. https://bit.ly/3AqZXbO #regenag #regenerative #carbon #sustainability #agriculture

Looking forward to the upcoming RFSI 2025 conference in Brussels to discuss next steps in the transition to a regenerative food system starting with the soil and ending all the way in our stomachs... Regenerative Food Systems Investment
Last year we invested in Mad Capital to support their mission of helping farmers transition from conventional to regenerative agriculture. Here is an article on how this looks in practice and how well thought-out and farmer centric their business model is. We need to scale this approach rapidly to speed the transition and support our farmers anywhere on the planet. Thanks to the The Rockefeller Foundation for supporting this. #RegenAg https://lnkd.in/ddes8-bP

Anyone interested in scaling #regenerativeagriculture and transforming their ag supply chain should start at the beginning: the farmers are our earth's, our land's doctors, let's let them heal it and reflect together how we can support them with this.

Coming in at spot 5 in our 2024 top 10 countdown is Financing for Regenerative Agriculture. This comprehensive report, produced in partnership with Transformational Investing in Food Systems and The Rockefeller Foundation, explores the landscape of financing resources available for regenerative agriculture. While there is interest in investing in sustainable farming practices, many stakeholders are uncertain how to develop scalable investment instruments. Based on more than 40 interviews with field practitioners, our report provides insight into funding options, and as Managing Director Dave Haynes said, “highlight[s] the breadth of economically enticing incentives that will bring more constituents to the table.” Read the report: https://lnkd.in/gEdCZCyS

A very interesting read.... "Switching to a regenerative system is a significant undertaking, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach – hence the difficulties defining it"
I had lots of interesting conversations at #Cerealsevent yesterday about the Sustainable Farming Incentive economic modelling within our new #Food and the #environment Spotlight. Working with Tricia Singleton, we looked at the economics of a transition to #regenerativefarming. But there is also a clear message that a well-designed SFI 2024 agreement has something to offer farmers with a whole range of objectives. To find out more, visit my colleagues on the Savills stand at Cereals Event.

Where — and how — should we deploy capital to support the transition to regenerative agriculture in the American Midwest? (link below! 👇) Shifting from conventional to regenerative practices necessitates substantial investments. And it is not simply a question of how much capital is deployed, but how it is deployed. The American Midwest is one of the world’s most intense agricultural production areas, and capital is already flowing into #regenerative #agriculture, including from federal government programs, foundations, and venture capitalists. There is also growing interest from U.S. funders and investors. However, this money largely flows into single-point solutions: funding for individual farming operations, processing facilities, investment in individual start-ups, grants for conservation projects, and so on. The issue, though, is that systems transformation rarely results from single-point solutions. What’s critical to note is that, in order to finance the regenerative agriculture transition at scale, we need to adopt a #polycapitalistic approach: matching the right type of capital to the right intervention, at the right point in time. So today, we’re pleased to share a new “transition map” to help guide investors and funders who want to participate in the shift to regenerative agriculture. This map is a blueprint for all capital holders interested in regenerative agriculture, whether that’s philanthropists, institutional investors, venture capitalists, private equity, or public finance — to name a few It is the result of a year-long systemic inquiry where my amazing colleague, Ivana Gazibara, and I lead a consultation process at TransCap Initiative where we focused on understanding what factors influence the adoption of regenerative practices in the Midwest, and how capital can be strategically coordinated and deployed to support the transition to regenerative agriculture at scale. I suggest reading the report first, which gives an overview of the work and identifies the key systemic challenges and leverage points for capital holders. Explore our research report ➡️ https://2ly.link/201Bz The map allows for a deeper exploration of the dynamics and intervention strategies that can create ripple effects across the system. Explore the transition map ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dXGEiKTB We hope that the insights presented in the map can be the first step in closing the gap between current investment practices and the transformative needs of the agriculture system in the Midwest and beyond by serving as a blueprint for catalyzing sustainability transitions at pace and scale.

With Discover Regenerative now live, we wanted to share more of the nuts and bolts of how we are approaching the diverse world that is regenerative agriculture. With no clear definition and the ongoing debate of what is / isn’t regenerative agriculture, one thing that does seem to be agreed upon, is that regeneration is a journey. Producers are at different stages: some have been leaders in this space for decades, some are taking the first steps and on the right track towards improvement. Working closely with a number of leading regenerative agriculture organisations in Australia, we have developed an approach to providing Assurance that recognises this diversity, rewarding proven achievement whilst also supporting entry and improvement.
