Nabis Launches in New York. The launch brings Nabis’ best-in-class wholesaling technology that provides rapid order fulfillment, payment processing, customer service, and compliance to New York’s burgeoning market, with two storage facilities strategically located in the Bronx and Rochester to provide 2-day shipping turnaround times in nearly all regions across the state. As the only platform in New York that has invested in dedicated cannabis distribution facilities, Nabis will serve nearly 10% of the state market by end of year, with capacity built for the market’s imminent and rapid scale. The structure in Rochester—a repurposed Kodak manufacturing facility—is upwards of 30,000 square feet, while the Bronx warehouse measures nearly 10,000 square feet. Lowell Farms is expanding its presence in California's cannabis market by taking on the management of two Los Angeles dispensaries, Rose Collective in Venice and Sunnyside Collective in Westwood. Last Tuesday I attended my first Business of Cannabis in New York City. Here are my takeaways from the conference... 1. The OCM is growing steadily. What does this mean? Fewer illicit shops in the city, more legal shops - But there has to be a balance. 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? They seem to think they will. 2. The cannabis industry in New York is approaching branding, business strategy, and customer loyalty as if they are an entirely different industry (as they should). Joanne Wilson of Gotham discussed the benefits for people employed in her retail locations and they would make people in other retail industries jealous. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. 3. Proposed improved regulation changes mean hope for NYC, but are a double-edged coin. Discounting and promos may soon become allowed in NYC, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺 and offer steep discounts. Long term this won’t work (This should be obvious). 4. Who will succeed in the NYC cannabis market? For 3-5 years it will be about surviving the hype. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘯 it will be thriving past that. Reality? Many brands won’t make it past that 3-5 years (but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try). 5. 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆/𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹. There is more opportunity to enter new markets and expand as time goes on. Retail dispensary licensing will be limited to decrease oversaturation. 6. 𝗧𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚. Shout out to Arana Hankin-Biggers from The Travel Agency: A Cannabis Store who ALWAYS advocates for shelf appeal. Remember a couple years ago when I said cannabis is going to end up looking like a convenience store…. Well, gummies and bev and d8 and d9 and thca are in non-rec/med shops across the country, in diverse states from Texas, CA, to MN… And in developed rec markets like MI, you can buy gummies for at $3 for 200mg (cheaper than gummies in the gas station!) If you are launching in a new market, or operating in an existing one, and this isn’t the eventual reality you are building toward, it should be. If you are investing in cannabis and the company you are putting money into hasn’t brutally faced this future with a consistent, well thought out plan, it’s a BIG red flag. Liters will be $2-3k. Lbs will be $4-600. Gummies will be $3-5 per pack at retail. Prerolls will be $2-3. I’m not here to ruin the party. I’m here to help start a new one. Let’s make sure it’s extra funky.

At 667 units, the market is back to where it was in JAN '24 2️⃣ There was a 2 unit decrease of storefronts that reported REC Sales in DEC '24, --> 10 storefronts either (1) reported REC Sales for the first time or (2) reported REC Sales after taking a few to several months off --> 12 storefronts stopped reporting REC Sales 3️⃣ January is not a popular month to open a storefront: Only AUG, NOV, and DEC of 2024 had fewer newly reported storefronts than last JAN '24. 4️⃣ A shift is occurring. Fernway generated $11.1M in wholesale revenue and an estimated annualized retail gross merchandise value (GMV) of $95M+ in Q3 2024. This represents +133% year over year growth. Fernway’s year over year growth has been bolstered by its entry into the New Jersey cannabis market in late 2023 as well as the New York cannabis market in early 2024 through its partnership with UrbanXtracts, a New York based cultivation and manufacturing business. Fernway signed an agreement to license the distribution of its brand to Rodeo, a Connecticut-based cultivation and manufacturing business, and Fernway expects its products to be available in Connecticut in early 2025.
