Ulster University Faculty of Life & Health Sciences are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Catherine Ross as a Visiting Professor. Catherine is the Chief Scientific Officer in Scottish Government, providing professional advice to ministers and government on all aspects of healthcare science. She is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction for the scientific services in Scotland and leads on international health issues from a scientific profession's perspective. Catherine is a two-time graduate of Ulster University, initially completing a postgraduate certificate in Health Science in 2008 and then achieving an MSc in Health Science in 2013. In 2023, Catherine was awarded the Ulster University Distinguished Graduate Award, supported by Allstate. Catherine has remained very close to Ulster University and is dedicated to seeing our students and graduates fulfil their potential. Early in her career Catherine was involved in the development of the first Clinical Physiology undergraduate programme which was delivered by Ulster University. Professor Catherine Ross stated: “I am honoured to accept this position as Visiting Professor at the university where my career began, I am delighted to be able to support the Faculty of Life & Health Sciences and the significant role that they play in developing the future workforce for health and social care. I look forward to working with students and staff to further strengthen the role of the university as a leading educator of the NHS scientific workforce. Professor Daniel Kerr, Head of School of Health Sciences, said on the announcement: “We are delighted to welcome Catherine as a Visiting Professor. Catherine has already been a great support to our School and we look forward to developing this relationship further over the coming years.” As an alumna, we are beyond proud to see Catherine continue to go from strength to strength in her career, and we are thrilled to welcome her back as a Visiting Professor to share her expertise and create a lasting impact on healthcare science education at Ulster University.
