My team and I are so excited to be part of the Y Combinator Fall Cohort working on the most important problem in the world - healthcare. Our company, FutureClinic, helps doctors launch their own digital clinics that are 99% AI and 1% doctor. This unlocks millions of latent doctor hours worldwide, bridging the supply/demand mismatch that has always plagued healthcare. It’s an incredibly tough challenge, but as a team including 3 medical doctors, we know there’s nobody better to do it. DMs open if anyone has questions! Intriguing pitch. Do you think patients want more than 1% doctor?
Great news Usama - excited to see the growth of OpenClinic. Are those the percentages currently? 99% AI 1% Doctor or is that the intended vision down the line? Does this work across all medical disciplines?
Are you focusing on specific specialities (eg Family Medicine, Derma) or specific level (e.g. primary care). A digital offering is more suited to some specialities and types of patient illnesses than others. Moreover there are a number of other factors to consider to truly enable the use of those unlocked latent hours eg. availability and accessibility of either diagnostics which would be required for eliminating differentials and/or examination tools. And if you plan on going worldwide, you'll have to go through all the different regulators of respective jurisdictions to implement these solutions, not to mention the challenges with AI training architecture (centrally vs some form of federated style learning) as there will be end user privacy concerns. Good Luck!
I was wondering when we’d see this. Nice initiative. I’m intrigued to know more but as someone who uses Ai tools I know the capabilities and the solutions it can bring to the field.
3 more doctors off the healthcare delivery market :). Just kidding, looks really interesting. Congrats
Branding W, team W, vision W… messaging needs work!! Top comment on “do people want 1% doctor” was also my first thought reading that line 😅
Congratulations Usama! 🙌 What's the plan with Stratum? Freezing the project for now, or will there be somebody else working on it? 👀
Congratulations Usama Syed and team, looking forward to seeing you succeed in this venture, as always! 🎉🎉
Kidney Watch Consulting uses the P.A.R. method—Prevention, Access, Reform—to fight for ethical renal care, oppose value-based care, and push systemic change. We demand patient-first treatment and greater access to care
4moUsama Syed While it’s exciting to see innovation aimed at healthcare access, a model of “99% AI and 1% doctor” could be deeply problematic, especially for complex fields like renal care and kidney disease management. Patients managing chronic and life-altering conditions need nuanced, personalized care that accounts for a wide range of factors—something AI alone may not adequately deliver. Renal care involves constantly shifting parameters based on each individual’s unique health history, comorbidities, and treatment responses, which often require the hands-on expertise and judgment that only human providers can offer. From a patient perspective, this pitch raises concerns about the risk of oversimplifying patient care, potentially leading to oversight in critical areas where AI might miss subtle signs that an experienced doctor would catch. Kidney disease and dialysis management require a careful balance, and if “99% AI” decisions aren’t thoroughly overseen by knowledgeable doctors, patients may face delays in receiving essential interventions. What’s missing here is a realistic balance that acknowledges where AI can help and where real medical expertise is essential.
