The Leader in Me program, based on Stephen R. Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," has had a significant impact on students in three critical areas: leading self, leading others, and leading change. This program, implemented in schools worldwide, aims to foster leadership and life skills in students, preparing them for future academic and personal success. Leading Self Leader in Me empowers students to develop self-leadership skills, which include self-discipline, personal responsibility, and goal-setting. By internalizing the 7 Habits, students learn to be proactive, set personal goals, and take responsibility for their actions. Research indicates that students involved in the Leader in Me program exhibit increased self-confidence and better self-regulation. For instance, one study found that schools implementing Leader in Me saw improved student behavior and academic performance, demonstrating the program's effectiveness in enhancing self-leadership skills. Leading Others The program also focuses on interpersonal effectiveness by teaching students how to lead others through collaboration, communication, and relationship building. Activities and lessons encourage students to practice empathy, teamwork, and conflict resolution. The development of these skills is evident in the way students interact with their peers, fostering a more inclusive and supportive school environment. A study highlighted that Leader in Me schools reported a significant decrease in bullying incidents and an increase in positive peer interactions【https://lnkd.in/g8ERt_rn Leading Change Lastly, Leader in Me equips students with the skills to lead change within their communities. This includes understanding and practicing the principles of proactive change, such as identifying opportunities for improvement and taking initiative to implement solutions. Students engage in various leadership roles and projects that allow them to experience the impact of their contributions firsthand. Research shows that students in Leader in Me schools demonstrate enhanced problem-solving skills and a greater sense of agency in effecting positive change in their environments【https://lnkd.in/g8ERt_rn. Overall, the Leader in Me program fosters a comprehensive development of leadership skills, preparing students not just for academic success, but for meaningful participation in their communities. The integration of these principles into daily school life creates a culture where students are motivated to lead themselves, collaborate with others, and drive positive change. There has been a lot of emphasis on “servant leaders” over the past few years but I’ve always felt: 1–there is a broad spectrum of leadership and that 2–no person is just one type. Furthermore, that different contexts require different and/or a mix of leadership for individuals or organizations to attain and retain first position in the long run. https://lnkd.in/g6TcDQSQ

It's tricky to see ourselves from a truly objective viewpoint. We all tend to be pretty good at identifying other people's poor leadership skills, BUT not so great at identifying our own. Over 50% of leaders consider themselves exemplary: regardless of their team's poor performance. Tsk tsk. Identifying the gaps in your own leadership is foundational for building self-awareness. This is so very true of my experience working with leaders at every level of different types of organizations. The title means confidence has been placed in you, not that you have all the skills or answers. There are many factors people put confidence in other people’s ability to lead. Today we try to largely rely on prior traditional leadership experience but it doesn’t guarantee outcomes. https://lnkd.in/gBsDqtCb

What a shocking chart!
Folks from Michigan know how wonderful Michigan is and what it has to offer. So it’s completely unacceptable that we rank in the bottom ten for growth nine years in a row ! This really is a leadership issue. Our leadership in Michigan MUST do better, or else we need new leaders!! https://lnkd.in/eNA_qKTu
