Navigating Cybersecurity: NIST Framework 2.0 Guide for Small Businesses In celebration of National Small Business Week, the U.S. Small Business Administration highlights the critical role small businesses play in our economy and introduces an essential tool for their growth and protection: the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 Small Business Quick Start Guide. This guide is designed to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) manage and reduce cybersecurity risks effectively. The NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) offers voluntary guidance, providing a flexible framework to support businesses of all sizes in enhancing their cybersecurity measures. The CSF 2.0, updated recently in 2024, emphasizes understanding, assessing, prioritizing, and communicating cybersecurity efforts within a company. The Small Business Quick Start Guide serves as an on-ramp to this journey, presenting a structured approach by breaking down the framework into manageable functions: Govern, Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover. Each section of the guide includes specific actions to consider, starting points for implementation, key questions to provoke thought and discussion, and additional resources for further guidance. By tailoring their cybersecurity strategies to their unique needs and risks, SMBs can not only protect themselves against cyber threats but also prepare for sustainable growth and resilience in an increasingly digital world. As we close the #nationalsmallbusinessweek, we want to share a few great cybersecurity resources for SMBs - a key group of businesses that NTM Advisory supports. While cyberattacks on small businesses don't make the front of the Wall Street Journal, they (arguably) have a bigger impact as they often represent a more existential risk to SMBs with a variety of studies indicating that the majority of SMBs are forced to close their doors within 12 months of experiencing a cyberattack. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has created some great content intended for SMBs to understand and adopt the #CybersecurityFramework: https://lnkd.in/gTy2xfJJ The U.S. Small Business Administration has also published some pragmatic and direct suggestions on their main site: https://lnkd.in/gGNnH6pV The most important thing for SMBs to do for their cybersecurity posture is to do SOMETHING! Anything. No matter how small it may seem, start somewhere and build upon it. If you want help figuring out what that right first (or next) step might be, NTM Advisory is here to help. #informationsecurity #cybersecurity #pragmaticsecurity #riskmanagement #smallbusinesses #ntmadvisory

When it comes to cybersecurity the disconnect between aspiration and reality remains wide for many organizations, according to CompTIA's “State of Cybersecurity 2025” report released today. Though 98% of organizations surveyed identify cybersecurity as a primary or secondary technology priority, just 25% feel cybersecurity is moving in the right direction. There is still strong intent to hire for cybersecurity, and train and upskills current staff, including through certification. Nearly 1,200 business and IT professionals across seven international regions were surveyed. Access the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gaiM5AD5
