At EURO BUS EXPO, British firm Mellor focused on promoting its vehicles for demand-responsive and welfare transportation, after it discontinued its 'Sigma' line of electric buses earlier in the year. At the end of last year, Belgian businessman Guido Dumarey acquired Mellor, whose former parent company fell into financial trouble. Dumarey decided to discontinue the Chinese-sourced Sigma range, which he believed was not good “strategically” for Mellor. At the show, Mellor presented a low floor ‘Strata’ minibus decorated in the livery of the ‘Bee Network’ – Greater Manchester’s integrated transport network which is set for a 2025 launch. Exciting developments are unfolding in the bus sector. In line with their manifesto, The Labour Party is taking action to devolve greater powers over bus services to local authorities, promising a "bus revolution." Since taking control of bus services last year, Transport for Greater Manchester has seen impressive improvements in reliability and patronage on their Bee Network: "Over the past six months, the number of people using buses in those areas has increased by 5%, with the week ending 18 May recording the highest weekly patronage to date since franchising started, with over 849,000 passenger journeys. The punctuality of services is also consistently outperforming both the current non-franchised network, and the pre-franchised network that operated over the same period last year, with more than 80% of services (82.9%) running on time, between 28 April and 23 June, compared with 68.7% over the same period 12 months ago." https://lnkd.in/ekp6FNyR

I’m very much looking forward to meeting coach members at the EURO BUS EXPO in Birmingham next month (12-14 November). The event showcases the latest services, vehicles and technologies for coach operators – and offers a range of seminars on current industry experiences and developments. We will exhibit at the #NEC event (Stand 110) where visitors can find out what we do to support our members and the wider coach sector. Come and see us if you’re there. The event will follow shortly after the Budget and we’re getting the message across that we will support the Government deliver on their mission to drive economic growth with our coach members playing their crucial part. But there’s a lot that ministers can do to help the coach sector do what it does even better. We’re asking the Chancellor to continue with the fuel duty freeze and introduce a 15-per-litre essential user rebate. This would make coach travel even more competitive and could take more cars off the road. We’re calling for the take up of low-carbon fuels like HVO to be incentivised through rebates to speed up coach sector decarbonisation, and for the National Wealth Fund to support the sector with investment in zero-emission vehicles and infrastructure. Our industry needs continuing support to recruit and train more drivers and vehicle technicians, and on reducing cost burdens – we’re calling for full expensing to be extended to leased assets to help small operators. More on our #Budget asks:https://lnkd.in/eD58vaq4 I welcome your comments… #RHACoaches #RHAInfrastructure #RHAFacilities #RHACostsAndRegulation #eurobusexpo

BUS operators at Kulima Tower Bus Station in Lusaka will this Thursday offer free rides on all routes for passengers born in December and January. Kulima Tower Bus Station Association has further offered free drives to all women with advanced pregnancies. As long as one shows proof that they were born in December or January, they will be able to enjoy a free ride from the bus station. During the commemoration of the New Dawn government’s three years in office in August, the drivers slashed their bus fares by 50 percent to appreciate the end to cadreism in bus stations and markets. Kulima Tower Bus Station Association chairman Nicholas Banda said drivers decided to surprise the passengers with free rides as a Christmas bonus. Mr Banda, aka Faza, said passengers will be required to avail their national registration cards (NRCs) to conductors at the station.
