T&BB attended the 2024 Euro Bus Expo, which took place at the NEC Birmingham in the UK. Alexander Dennis unveiled the Enviro100EV and next-generation Enviro400EV battery-electric buses as part of its focus on zero-emission. Paul Davies, the CEO of Alexander Dennis confirmed that by working closely with systems integration partners, the new generation EVs have achieved a 97% charging efficiency certified by the Zemo Partnership’s zero-emission bus testing programme. The 97% grid-to-wheel efficiency is the best recorded in UK zero-emission bus certification to date and these gains of course drive efficiency and lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of the vehicles for fleet managers. The OEM has optimised its charging and system integration by working with engineering teams from its driveline supplier Voith, battery manufacturer Impact Clean Power Technology and HVAC specialist Grayson Thermal Systems. I'm excited to share our latest publication titled "Route optimization of battery electric vehicles using dynamic charging on electrified roads" published in Sustainable Cities and Society. In collaboration with Dr. Vahid Akbari and Prof. Bülent Çatay, we explore the transformative potential of Electric Road Systems (ERS) for logistics activities. Our study introduces a solution for long-distance EV routes, leveraging ERS to enable charging while driving. Through innovative problem-solving and a network reduction heuristic (NRH), we demonstrate the viability of ERS in enhancing EV range and reducing carbon emissions in logistics operations. Key findings highlight that with widespread ERS deployment, EVs can cover distances exceeding 2000 kilometers without recharging, surpassing typical range limitations. Moreover, establishing ERS infrastructure on 30-40% of roadways ensures reliable EV access. link to the paper:

„Fahrzeug“ (~„Drive-Thing“) is the German term for vehicle. „Standzeug“ would probably be more accurate, as cars are in fact standing idle 90% of the time. That’s why vehicle-to-grid (V2G) or in fact „-to-everything“ (V2X) is so important to exploit the massive storage capacities of „batteries-on-wheels“, aka electric vehicles. Together with stationary energy storage, EVs can provide the much required flexibility for the energy transition - and being part of the solution, not of the (load-j problem. I am very glad to participate at one of the few dedicated conferences for this important subject today and tomorrow. Looking forward to the related exchange on the #vehicle2grid conference in Münster. The good message to start into the year 2025! The charging solution for heavy trucks without significant investment in power grid is ready to ship! Availability of sufficient charging capacity for E-Trucks is one of the limiting factors for the electrification of heavy duty vehicles. The technology is available and our consortium has prepared a field tested solution ready to use!

The MAN eTruck was charged with more than 700 kW and 1,000 A at an MCS charging station from ABB E-mobility. MCS charging station from ABB E-moblity and the new MAN eTruck. ABB E-mobility and MAN Truck & Bus celebrated the premiere of the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) in the presence of Bavarian Minister President Dr Markus Söder. The premiere of megawatt charging was the starting signal for an elementary component of the mobility transition in the commercial vehicle sector towards climate-friendly mobility and the successful electrification of buses and trucks. Especially in national and international long-distance transport or in loading and unloading situations, electric trucks and, in the future, electric coaches will need a fast MCS booster during the legally prescribed driving time break. The new technology therefore complements existing solutions: Depot charging with lower charging capacities will continue to play a central role in the future. The two companies have demon
