There has understandably been a lot of focus on copyright and licensing for AI models. But what happens to other interest holders? For example, owners and custodians of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) are often not the copyright holders of works which hold ICIP. And the copyright in publicly funded research is often not held by academics, universities or governments. Should they have a say in their works being used for training models? We (the Australian Library and Information Association) explored some of the challenges with an over-reliance on licensing solutions in our recent submission to the adoption of AI inquiry - https://lnkd.in/gzMpZ4T9 #copyright #AI #LibrariesTransform

Standing Together for Fair AI: EPC and Creative Sectors Highlight Concerns on EU AI Code of Practice Draft to Executive Vice-President Virkkunen The European Publishers Council (EPC) and a coalition of leading creative and cultural organisations across Europe have voiced serious concerns about the Second Draft of the General-purpose AI Code of Practice under the EU AI Act. In a letter to Executive Vice-President Virkkunen, we highlight key issues that risk undermining both EU copyright law and the innovative potential of Europe's creative industries. From weakened copyright standards to inadequate transparency measures, the current draft moves further away from protecting creators and ensuring responsible AI development. The stakes are high‼️ AI innovation and creativity must grow hand-in-hand. That’s why we’re calling for urgent improvements to the Code to ensure compliance with EU law, safeguard creators’ rights, and support a fair licensing market. Read the coalition's full response and call to action here: https://lnkd.in/gZUfcXeV #FairAI #Copyright #CreativeIndustries #ArtificialIntelligence #EPC Also on our website you can find EPC's Vision Paper
