Just wrapped up an incredible conversation at SXSW EDU on The Future of Teaching in an Age of AI—and what a discussion it was! AI is already reshaping education in profound ways, from personalized learning to automating administrative tasks, but one theme stood out today: AI literacy is essential, not just for students, but for educators, too. A few key takeaways from our conversation: 🔹 AI literacy is essential. Students need to be critical thinkers, not just passive users of AI tools. 🔹 Personalization vs. human connection. AI can support learning, but educators remain at the heart of the classroom experience. 🔹 AI isn’t just for computer science. Teachers in all subjects can integrate AI discussions into their lessons. 🔹 The pace of change is fast. A year from now, the conversation will have evolved, but educators must start somewhere. A huge thank you to Karim M., Tara N., and Jake Baskin for joining me in Austin!
Always grateful for the chance to learn from you, Thomas Rodgers!

6dGreat job Thomas Rodgers! I appreciated Jake Baskin saying that just because technology can do a particular skill, doesn’t mean WE should stop doing it — that it actually underscores the need for every student to have a foundational understanding of AI and data literacy so they are best prepared to leverage the technology in their future. Jon Deane wrote a piece on a similar topic recently for The 74 Media in connection with GreatSchools.org’s partnership with Data Science 4 Everyone: https://www.the74million.org/article/the-great-connector-why-data-literacy-is-vital-to-students-future-success (cc: Zarek Drozda)
