Hume Scope have just released their Recruiter "Billings, Salary & Commission Report" for 2024 & it had a few little data sets in there that surprised me. If you haven't had a chance to download it, it's well worth a read - if for no other reason to give yourself a yard stick to measure against for whether or not you're on track. In today's ep, I take a deep dive into the data they present & share my thoughts on their findings. (FYI, they have not asked me to do this, I just genuinely think they offer great training & data so saw the value in going through it). I was especially surprised by some of the average billings / quarter that we're seeing across the board. OK, here we go... I think salary guides are completely pointless. In fact, they are as useful as waterproof teabags! Recruiters love them! Almost like they are some long-lost scripture that each year could change the fate of humanity. The reality is they are all so generic and broad... The only way to really benchmark a role is to actually benchmark that particular role. Example: Type in Finance Director salary guide, (I did) not only will you get a huge range, it won't factor in any of the following... 1️⃣ What you have to pay for someone OK vs someone exceptional. 2️⃣ The size and complexity of the business. 3️⃣ The key skills that might be required. 4️⃣ The business growth / exit plan. I do need a Finance Director though. It's paying between... £85,000 and £400,000 - When can you start? We Do Group The detailed salary benchmark people and avid supporters of conventional teabags!

There is a simple way to double your salary that people don’t talk about! The secret is to link your input to the output of the company. You have to quantify your input and show how it is benefiting the company in its revenue and profit. For example, if you work in customer support for a subscription-based app, your job is to help users with their issues and retain them. By tracking the number of users you retain, you can get the amount of how much you're contributing to the company's revenue and profit. If you can get this data, go to your boss at the end of the quarter and show them how you’ve helped the company and ask for your well deserved bonus or increment. This approach shows you're a valuable asset, contributing to the company's success. It's always good to focus on showing your impact and not just talking about increasing your salary without showing results.

Well, that was a long month! Hope everyone is looking forward to the start of February tomorrow - and the weekend :). Here is my final video in the series on Planning your Pay Rise. Today, I focus on the final step - defining your ask and knowing your numbers. A bit like Dragon's Den and pitching your idea, I urge my clients to be really clear on what they are asking for and to know their numbers - especially if you predict that you will have to justify your ask or you may need to have some negotiation flex. I have found that each situation is individual and different - but if you think through the four steps I've covered in the last week, you will get a sense of what you think is right to pitch, where your negotiation lines are and how to approach in the best way. I hope this has all been helpful. And I'd love to hear any other tips or thoughts - either via comments or directly to me - on what has worked for you in terms of asking for or negotiating a pay rise or lessons you'd like to pass onto others. And best of luck if you are in this situation - you've got this! PS. If you want to be added to my newsletter, then let me know and I'll put you on the list.

Your business is burning and churning staff. Not only is that exhausting it costs you ⏰time, 💰💰money – 200% or more of the annual salary for each person – and 🏋️♀️energy. 🤩It adds to your stress levels, 🤩sucks your energy, 🤩stops you getting your own work done, and 🤩stresses other staff needlessly. The truth is it does not have to be that way. Let’s get your team working for you rather than you 🤩holding it all together, 🤩putting out fires, and 💰doing tasks below your pay grade. Message me to find out how.

💰 💵 Are you up to date with Salaries? 💵 💰 The Adele Carr 2024 Finance salary guide is now available to ensure my clients are up to date with the market. This information is very important for a few reasons: 💲 Employee retention – Many candidates reach out to us seeking new opportunities because their current employer isn’t paying them in line with the market. 💲 Personal salary comparison – If you have been at the same company for a while, are you sure your own salary meets the current market value? 💲 Recruitment – It is an extremely candidate-short market, and you are competing with other businesses. Therefore, you need to ensure the package you offer is competitive. I am having regular conversations with clients regarding salaries, helping with Finance team restructuring, and other hiring needs/trends. If you have any questions and want to have a quick chat, I’m more than happy to jump on a call or pop into the office to discuss in more detail to best help support you. If you would like to see our Finance Salary Guide please do reach out, I’m currently putting together more information on hybrid working stats, employee retention, and interview techniques for both candidates and clients. If there is something you would like to know more about or issues you’re finding, then please do give me a shout! #finance #salaryguide #financeinformation
