If you want to stand out, creating content is the way to do it. Here’s how I used content to land my job at YouTube. When applying for my role as a Strategy Partner Manager at YouTube, I wanted to go beyond the traditional approach... What should someone wanting to work at YouTube do? Make a video! One night, I sent them an unlisted video (A 60-second Short in fact! Titled: “Why Charles Kerr Should Work at YouTube.” I shared my experiences of: - Working in marketing within startups. - Helping mid-to-large-size advertisers improve their YouTube ad strategies. - Driving high-quality leads and conversions on the platform. - Having my own YouTube channel and experience uploading on the platform I didn’t want to be another resume in the mix of thousands of resumes for recruiters to read. There’s a great book called “The Third Door” that encourages different ways of doing this - trust me there are always new ways of standing out from the crowd. Creating a video allowed the recruiter to get a sense of how I talk and how I act, it allowed them to potentially trust me before having to get on an interview with me. That’s why I’m always shouting from the rooftops for you all to start creating content. It has the potential to change your life, make someone’s day or… land that next job! What’s the best thing that’s happened to you from creating content?

You’ve inspired me to create my first ever YouTube channel! Only one video and it’s been watched 8 times… But it’s a start! https://m.youtube.com/@ThomasAbleman

Nice to see a post like this on LinkedIn! Was worth the time it took to read 😂 Other than using content to become self employed I think my highlight was definitely gracing the same pitch as Roberto Carlos and Gilberto Silva. Obviously those two dwarf into comparison when being on the same team as the legendary Tim Chase 😉
