Is spatial computing the next big thing? Jessy Wu, a Partner at AfterWork Ventures, thinks so. 🚀 Jessy sat down with 🙌 Garry Williams Williams and shared her excitement about the potential of spatial computing to revolutionise how we interact with the digital world. She said, 'I’ve spoken about my excitement in spatial computing on panels and posted about it. This creates excellent conversations with founders, who become excited that they don’t have to build my conviction in the space from scratch so that we can enter a deeper conversation about the future.' The companies outlined here are divided into six areas. There are thumbnail outlines of around 100 companies, ranging from large and recognised technology leaders to startups. The divisions are not always neat, particularly for the larger systems because there are overlapping functions, and there are subsets within the six divisions. It does not attempt to cover every new company everywhere with a construction related AI system, but is a comprehensive if not complete survey of construction AI at the end of 2024.

“One of the first applications for the technology is as an alternative to GPS, which is akin to “an atomic clock on a satellite,” Sristy Agrawal says. “While GPS is an incredible technology, it’s also a single point of failure for our entire economy, so we’ve been aggressively looking for solutions. One of the very promising approaches to solving it is to do it through direct hardware. We’re basically shrinking the atomic clock quite a bit so that you’re not completely reliant on GPS.”
We couldn't agree more that Sristy Agrawal is a rising star! Agrawal, 29, moved from India to Colorado to study quantum computation at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2019. “Boulder, in general, has the most thriving quantum ecosystem in the world,” she says. The overwhelming focus on quantum computing, however, paved the way for Agrawal to co-found Mesa Quantum with Wale lawal, Ph. D. Lawal in early 2024. Quantum computing “was something we are still working on developing, while quantum sensing was something which already was much more mature, but there was not as much focus on it, because the market wasn’t well-defined,” she says. 7moI have been talking to companies in this space for many years, and it feels like we are now getting to the market scale required for VR headsets to take off. Unfortunately it is hard to make a market, and Meta has done a great job with the Quest line, especially the Quest 2, which has sold in similar numbers to Apple's breakout iPhone 3G.
