Recent thoughts from the Job Hunt:
🎯 In the hunt for the job itself, are skills upon skills that need to be learned and understood. Since looking for a job I’ve had personal chats, read and watched guides online, I even attended a 3-week course! Every time I felt like I had figured something out, another thing would come up and show me just how much further my trek would be. After figuring out (or so I thought!) resumes, came cover letters, then interview skills, and oh so much more!
🔍 Many people say to start searching with a particular job or industry in mind, and when you’ve been searching for a while, it becomes really hard to stay focused. However, knowing what skills industries and professions are seeking, how they are worded, and how your current set of skills fit into that ecosystem, can really help you from applying for jobs that are actually way out of your wheelhouse.
🤔 Speaking of skills, I really wish I had been more diligent in recording the skills, instances, and milestones from previous jobs. Generally I thought I had been doing this, but never really thought to consider the processes that we used day-to-day, and how to measure the results that came out. This job hunt has taught me you need to be able to say what you did in the past, but also a way to measure or contextualize it.
2024 has been a big year of learning and striving for me. Thanks to those who shared kind words and your time with me along the way. Hoping to finish strong and step into the upcoming year with my best foot forward.
