The Iliad / Odyssey were the first narrative reboot. Meatheaded musclebound Achilles was hero 1.0 But Homer gives us hero 2.0, the thinking man's hero, called Odysseus. Although I'm guessing much of the aristo-warrior class Homer was poking fun at didn't think too much of her Iliad reboot. At first. But over time it became a classic. Stories have been rewritten as part of culture wars since forever. The values of a culture advance and stories change to communicate them. So here we are again with an iconic story being retooled as part of a culture war. Star Trek is one of the great myths of our times, and all sides of the culture wars want to claim ownership of it. Star Trek was always a peak narrative of modernity. The problem for Star Trek DISCO wasn't that it was a postmodern retooling of Star Trek. That could have been extremely cool. The problem for Star Trek DISCO was that it was a Not Very Good pomo reboot of Trek. If you're going to steal opposing territory you really need to stick the landing. And DISCO in 5 seasons never managed that. Which leaves Star Trek as contested territory. A culture war DMZ. Will Trek go the Strange New World's route and revert to its roots? Or will they take another shot at making it something more culturally relevant for today? https://lnkd.in/gWt_mXFR

💡Tired of Heartbreaking News around Every day? In recent years, I've been so turned off by the news. Every channel is filled with devastating stories. I started wondering, "Where's the positive news? 🤔 Why not highlight the good things happening?" Then I started reading Factfulness by Hans Rosling. His concept of The Fear Instinct really has a point: why the news is the way it is. “Fear instinct is such an easy way to grab our attention. In fact, the biggest stories are often those that trigger more than one type of fear. 2016 was the second safest year in aviation history, 40 million commercial passenger flights landed safely at their destinations. Such safe flight news is not newsworthy. How many will get excited to know so? ✈️➡️😴 It isn’t the journalists’ fault and we shouldn’t expect them to change. It is not driven by “media logic” among the producers so much as by “attention logic” in the head of the consumers.” The new question: What is my mind or attention craving to feed with? 🤔

"Bomb" and "cyclone" are two words you never want to hear on a plane. Yet there we were—my wife and I—strapped into our seats, enduring the brutal combination of both. The aircraft shuddered and was tossed like a toy in the wind, and we hadn’t even reached the worst part of the journey. The engines roared in protest as the plane dropped suddenly, then clawed its way skyward again. As the ground got closer it tilted and bounced wildly outside the window, it was nothing short of dizzying at best, terrifying at reality. Finally. Miraculously. We touched down to tarmac. As soon as we deboarded, my wife walked straight into the cockpit and thanked the pilots. She didn’t just mumble a polite “thanks for the flight.” She meant it—heartfelt gratitude for their skill and composure under impossible conditions. We often talk about the importance of hiring skilled people who fit our company culture, who work well with their teams, and who thrive under pressure. But here’s the problem: we have these conversations when the sky is clear and the weather is calm. We fail to act when it matters most. And then the storm hits. The lesson from that flight is clear: you don’t wait for turbulence to find your crew. You build your team before the cyclone arrives. You find, foster, and elevate talented people now—because when the sky inevitably darkens, you’ll need them. A prepared team doesn’t just survive the storm; they guide you to a safe landing.

Do you have the clear vision where you want to be? Do you have a clear vision what you want to have? If not, try to find it out. Try things, start over, but don't sit and wait. The pilot can’t fly without destination. Find out what you want. Where you want to go. What is your destination. You are the “The Pilot of Your Time & Life”

This extract from Chapter 2 of TRACTION by Gino Wickman explains that most business owners are unable to reach the next level because they are simply not ready to 'let go of the vine'. Sometimes we need reassurance, sometimes we need a gentle push to take that leap. Whatever you need, your flight is much easier and more enjoyable with a tribe of like-minded peers to support you! #loveyourflight
