🚨 The EU AI Act comes into force today 🚨 With a focus on safeguarding fundamental rights whilst ensuring the safe development and use of AI, it is expected to be the most consequential legislative framework to date applying to all organisations operating within the EU – regardless of where they are based. Despite national security being excluded from the Act, the new regulation will have significant implications for national security, both in the EU and beyond. To uncover the national security implications of global AI regulation initiatives, the Turing’s Centre for Emerging Technology and Security (CETaS) launches today a mini-series of Explainers. The first Explainer, authored by Rosamund Powell, identifies key considerations for the national security community when preparing for the implementation of the EU AI Act. 📒 Read the Explainer: https://bit.ly/3WJ3evk #AI #EU #EUAIAct #NationalSecurity

Big day today!!! 🚀The EU AI Act enters into force on 1st of August and will apply to any artificial intelligence (AI) systems already in place or in development. 🚀The act is widely considered to be the first legislation in the world that attempts to regulate AI based on the risks it poses. 🚀Lawmakers passed the legislation in March, but its publication in the European Commission’s official journal in July set the wheels in motion for its coming into force. 🚀The August 1 date sets off a series of dates and timelines over the months and years ahead to prepare companies that use AI in any capacity to get familiar with the new legislation and comply. 🚀AI Act evaluates companies based on risk The EU AI Act assigns its rules to every company using AI systems based on four levels of risk which in turn determines what timelines apply to them. The four types of risk are: no risk, minimal risk, high risk, and prohibited AI systems. 🚀The EU will ban certain practices entirely as of February 2025. That includes those that manipulate a user’s decision-making or expand facial recognition databases through internet scraping. #ai #eu #regulation
