A patient’s journey is oftentimes shaped by compassionate care, active listening, and shared decision-making. Nurses, in particular, make compassionate care the foundation of our health systems. Today, I had the privilege of speaking at ESNO, European Specialist Nurses Organisation’s event and to spotlight the indispensable role specialist nurses play in addressing Europe’s pressing health challenges. Nurses have the power to transform interactions into moments of empathy and connection that go far beyond medical procedures. I also argued that healthcare workers' shortages should be addressed with a similar urgency as medical products shortages; without sufficient professionals, patients' access to care is under threat. https://lnkd.in/eXDbmb8E

Managing expectations in nursing can feel like a balancing act, especially in the fast-paced Australian healthcare system. One of the best ways to manage this is to set clear boundaries from the start. Whether it’s with patients, colleagues, or leadership, communicate what’s realistic for you to deliver within your role and workload. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by expectations, peer support can help you reflect on where you can reset boundaries and find balance.
