Yet, most of the chips currently available in the market fall short of these requirements. A few companies across the globe, like #Sima.ai and #Hailo, are trying to fill that gap. However, #Netrasemi, a #Thiruvananthapuram-based #Indian #startup, is now entering the space with its cost-effective and #power-efficient #advanced #AI #chipsets for edge AI use cases. Backed by the #Ministry of #Electronics and #Information #Technology (#MeitY), Netrasemi has developed three chips so far to run AI models on the embedded edge. Soon, this startup will #tapeout two chips based on the 12 #nm #nodes. The first chip – #Netra #A4000 – represents a line of high-performance chips designed with advanced Chiplet (#D2D integration) #technology. Belgium’s Robovision inked a $42m deal in March to bring computer vision intelligence to industrial machinery, while Switzerland’s EthonAI raised a $16.5m Series A in May for software that predicts maintenance needs and catches quality issues early. 🔹Further evidence of a swell in AI manufacturing can be seen in the $28.5m Series B for UK-founded Oden Technologies, now based in New York, in April, while Apple a month earlier acquired Canadian startup DarwinAI, which visually inspects components during the manufacturing process. 🔹So-called predictive maintenance startups in Europe are suddenly experiencing VC love. aiomatic Solutions — based in Germany, as so many of these manufacturing startups are — raised €2m in January for a system that detects potential machine faults early and helps reduce downtime. Tomorrow Things, also German, raised €1.5m in March for a similar product. 🔹At the same time, we should expect to see more digital assistants enter factories. Stuttgart-based Assemblio creates animated step-by-step assembly guides for workers — the company raised €2.1m in February. Startups are also mining factory data to develop new safety tools: Sweden’s Buddywise raised €3.5m in March for a system that keeps a logbook of events marked urgent in factories, like when a forklift travels into an area it shouldn’t. I look forward to real innovations on the ground in rail technology in India. We do see plenty of ideas in social media but hardly any big-ticket applications. On the other hand, look at Hyperloop, for example. There are surprisingly several startups in India in this emerging concept, the so-called 5th mode of transport. Young engineers with ideas mostly incubated in advanced institutes of learning. Scalable vacuumized tubes, magnetic levitation, propulsion, climate control - the works.  Or the space sector - again there are several startups led by experienced guys and again some incubated at research institutes. Rockets have already been successfully launched by some. In the rail sector Medha is perhaps the only company with bottom-up home-grown technology development. They have tremendously grown organically and even produced Mumbai Monorail rolling stock. IISc is doing good work too. We do need many more creative startups, Train-18 and VB did happen, didn't it? The market is huge. Are there any hidden gems already?
