Incident Details Merchants experiencing errors when accessing multiple areas of Shopify WHAT HAPPENED? Between 19:49 PM and 20:06 PM UTC on May 6, 2024 one of our edge networking providers, Cloudflare performed changes to how they route traffic to Shopify. These changes were intended to align Shopify’s storefronts configuration to their latest standard. As a result of these changes, we observed a partial traffic loss and errors that merchants and users saw Shopify-wide. Internal alerts notified us, and we immediately reached out to Cloudflare. https://lnkd.in/gervzdv5

Folks in the D2C space who have moved out of Shopify, what made you take that step? Did the end result turn out the way you expected? From my external observations while working in the D2C enabler space, my generic conclusion has been that a lot of this is perceptual. The bottlenecks that I often hear that Shopify has, which necessitates a move, are often extremely pale (or sometimes simply perceptual) as compared a whole host of other issues that cause the bigger bottlenecks and can be easily addressed than getting into a full migration (which might introduce other unforseen migrations). Plus, nothing out there has an ecosystem of the likes of which Shopify provides. Or maybe I'm missing a bigger picture here in which case I'd love to be corrected and understand what that is. #d2c

One day I would love to have a sneak peak behind the scenes at Shopify. Who makes all of these servers, updates, integrations work at this huge scale? So much complexity is shielded from us, which is exactly the magic of Shopify. But this "veil of simplicity" spikes my interest to one day have a look behind scenes and understand what is actually going on. Today I was playing around again with metaobjects, metafields, form submissions. It's bunkers how extendible Shopify's data structures are becoming. What happened behind the scenes to make this extensibility work so seamlessly and beautifully? What additional servers had to be spun up? Where are these buildings full of servers located? Who is managing this technological marvel to make it work day to day?

≤ 0.8 seconds. ⚡️ That's the sweet spot according to Google for TTFB. Is your Shopify store there yet? I've seen TTFB range from 0.5 to 0.8 seconds in many Shopify stores. But what if your store's TTFB isn't making the cut? Let's dive into the two main culprits: 1. Complex liquid code, like many or nested loops, can slow TTFB. Excessive data queries you don't need could be the offender here. 2. Server Issues, temporary glitches with Shopify servers can hike up your TTFB. Persistent problems? It's time to touch base with Shopify support. Prevent slow TTFB from impacting your store's performance. A fast TTFB starts a chain reaction. It boosts both #FCP & #LCP, key metrics for your site's speed and user experience. #CoreWebVitals #ShopifySpeed #ShopifyPerformance #TTFB

Double your sales potential for 12p. It's a sales booster on eBay that's not used enough by sellers. Add a second category to your listings. You only have to make 13p then you're in profit. If I didn't hate all the hacks that would call this a hack, I would call it a hack. But I do, so I won't. It's a sound business strategy.
