ARE AUSSIE EXECS READY FOR AI? Of course they're not Tegan Jones of SmartCompany. We're utter laggards when it comes to technology adoption and promotion. Reserve Bank of Australia reported in 2023 that adoption of tech is a weak point (https://lnkd.in/dVtshWh2) CEDA - Committee for Economic Development of Australia reported a similar finding.(https://lnkd.in/dQMa3KSg) And so on. A quick search for Australian tech adoption returns a litany of articles et al attesting to our conservative and sluggish approach to technology use. It's one of the reasons behind our launch of SOFTWARE Australia. If we don't try, a future no different to our past is assured. https://lnkd.in/d4-gFje5

Public sector leaders beware! The private sector is much less keen on AI than big tech and its proxies would have you believe. It could be a matter of slow adoption but as this article from The Economist suggests: it could also be that AI is just not as good or transformative as is claimed. If this is true (and it is still early days) this has much deeper implications for public services than the availability of good tech. A major reason that funding for the public sector has dropped is lower tax revenues from the UK’s weak economic growth. AI it was hoped would massively boost productivity and hence reverse that trend. But if it turns out, as it did for the earlier wave of tech around PCs and the internet, that AI has little long-run impact on productivity, then this hope will be dashed. Policymakers and business leaders will once again be left scratching their heads about how to resolve sluggish productivity that some argue actually began way back in the 1970s. It all suggests that betting the farm on AI resolving the deep problems in public services would be extremely foolhardy. Instead, government and public sector leaders should learn from the range of remarkable innovations happening on the frontline. These rely not on whizzy, expensive tech speeding up processing but on the very opposite: taking more time to listen, to understand and to build relationships. An approach that is proving to be a more reliable route to more integrated, more preventative, more human care. #AI #publicservices #localgov #tech #productivity Dominic Campbell Matthew Skinner Rachel Coldicutt Pritesh Mistry https://lnkd.in/epYU4ugM

Our founder, Dr. Hector Zenil, was featured in AI Business where editor Berenice Baker highlighted his insights in response to Prime Minister Keir Starmer today’s announcement on AI investment in the U.K. UK Unveils AI Opportunities Action Plan: Industry Reacts https://lnkd.in/eUK-9Etf While the announcement of big data centers and access to supercomputers is welcome, Dr. Zenil believes that the government must address the investment gap left by British and European venture capitalists, who have far less appetite for risk compared to their U.S. counterparts. This disparity causes the U.K. to lag behind American companies, despite having talent of equal or greater calibre per number of inhabitants. #ai #aiuk #ai4science #agi #precisionhealthcare #predictivemedicine

BILLION I TELL YA, BILLIONS! $290B in 2030. We should get ourselves some of that action. You want more productivity Ed Husic MP? Here it is, writ large. Even if Google is out by half, we'd be mad not to look super seriously at the opportunities that #AI and the technology revolution represent. Our software industry is kicking off, with thousands of businesses already making their way, and many more on the way up. And the more AI gets going, the greater the opportunity to digitise Australia. But it's only going to happen once in my lifetime, so now is the time to get on with it. #MrSaaSSays - Digging big holes and growing stuff. Good piece Simon Bush... '"The Productivity Commission’s 2024 AI report aptly states, “focus is needed on policy interventions that effectively support safe AI uptake and productivity—particularly governments leading by example in their AI procurement and use.” With anaemic GDP growth of just 1 per cent over the year to end of June 2024 and 0.2 per cent in the June quarter, it is clear that more decisive action is required.'" #sovereignAI #sovereigncapability #technology #AI Macquarie Data Centres
