Thanks to The Quoted Companies Alliance(QCA) who invited me as a guest on their Growth Capital Podcast recently to discuss the interesting topic of ‘Public or Private?’. James Ashton, Ray Anderson and I discussed timings for founders to go public and how the stock market could increase its appeal so that more entrepreneurs take the plunge. I emphasised the need to give people the confidence to succeed, whether public or private. I also shared some of my personal experience about how we’ve successfully helped smaller companies to scale and grow, setting growth agendas for 6–7 years and working with them towards entering the public market. In this episode we covered key topics such as: · funding gaps, venture capital and how we could use the UK tax system to incentivise businesses · what motivates companies to turn to overseas investment · long-term planning and what the components of the journey to success look like · why some companies would rather stay private than going public – and the benefits of doing that, such as taxation. It was great to hear the thoughts of Ray Anderson; he has more than 30 years’ experience in starting, growing and selling businesses, and is executive chair and founder of Bango. In a recent discussion, Andrew Wilkinson, co-founder of Tiny Capital, delves into the pervasive mindset of deferring happiness until specific milestones are reached. He raises an intriguing question: does this pattern ever truly conclude, even for those who have achieved billionaire status? Wilkinson highlights the potential chaos that can accompany success, examining the role of SSRIs in the lives of many high-achieving individuals. He draws valuable lessons from Warren Buffett, particularly regarding the often-unrealistic financial thresholds that people set for their sense of accomplishment. The conversation also touches on the tendency of affluent individuals to distort their perceptions of reality and offers strategies for hiring talented individuals. Furthermore, Wilkinson emphasizes the importance of trusting one’s entrepreneurial instincts as a pathway to genuine fulfillment. Ultimately, this discourse sheds light on the complex relationship between success, happiness, and personal satisfaction, prompting a reevaluation of what it means to truly thrive. #Entrepreneurship #Success #Happiness #MentalHealth #Leadership ---------------------- Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eKfW9GAd

Most entrepreneurs fail because they’re too scared to fail publicly. Corporate jobs are predictable, but entrepreneurship isn’t. Success comes from messy experiments, pivots, and ideas that often flop. The difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is the courage to face embarrassment head-on. Are we too obsessed with perfection to truly innovate? 🎧 Watch the full episode of Innovator Insights now on Spotify, Apple, Pandora, YouTube, Audible, and iHeartRadio.

Great conversation between Shane Parrish (author of Clear Thinking) and David Segal (founder of David’s Tea) about entrepreneurship, friendship, failure, life, and more. What I found amusing: - Shane ends up picking up a tea culture because of his friendship with David (Shaileen Ebrahim you are not too far from making this happen to me, but coffee still wins ;) Two insightful ideas 💡 - David explains entrepreneurship as a personal journey disguised as a business pursuit - with its highs and lows. A lot of it comes down to managing your own psychology. - Life is short, importance of celebrating and taking care of relationships, family, friends.

Investor Interest ≠ Customer Demand. Here's why that matters for your business. Paul Hurley is a co-founder at Exactius. He’s raised over $150 million in venture capital over the years and scaled multiple companies to 9 figures across industries.
